Mobile Lead

Company: SimpleStudy is a consumer AI platform for exam preparation — "Duolingo for exam prep." Founded in Ireland, the company is post-seed (recently closed a funding round after fundraising in California), with 1.5M+ students across five primary markets: UK, Ireland, Brazil, South Africa, and Australia. ~40–50k new students join every week. The team is ~20 people, operating remotely with a Lisbon office. Notable investors include the first investors of Facebook and Revolut, and board members of Stripe and Intercom (recently sold to Salesforce for $3.6B). The company is lean, product-obsessed, and deliberately not a typical education company — it's built consumer-first, with a heavy PLG and A/B testing culture. Responsibilities and key results: Own the React Native app end-to-end — architecture, performance, release process, and roadmap — without needing the problem framed in advance Lead and mentor the two existing engineers already supporting mobile, setting technical direction and raising the bar for mobile craft Partner directly with Affan on engineering strategy and with Oisin on product direction where mobile intersects with growth, onboarding, and retention Drive native-feel polish: smooth animations, responsive interactions, platform-specific conventions (iOS/Android) Work in a PLG/A/B testing environment — ship features, instrument, measure impact, iterate fast Own app store presence and release cadence — versioning, store optimization, crash/performance monitoring Potentially help grow a dedicated mobile team as the app becomes a bigger part of the business Requirements: Proficiency in Typescript Strong experience with React Native Proven experience building and shipping consumer-grade mobile applications. Familiarity with common mobile tools and libraries (e.g., Expo, Firebase, push notifications, app store deployment). Experience with Tailwind, TanStack Query, React Native Reanimated and Jotai (or Zustand/Redux) Experience with leading and managing test teams Bonus: iOS development (Swift) Bonus: Android development (Kotlin) Conditions: Remote in Europe (preference: Western/continental Europe) Portugal relocation sponsorship possible Salary: no fixed budget.
