We are DEUS EX MACHINA , a cutting-edge AI Systems company specializing in Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), and Analytics for the food, nutrition, and life sciences industries. We leverage Generative AI, Large Language Models (LLMs), knowledge graphs, and first-principles simulation to accelerate how products are discovered, formulated, and manufactured, contributing breakthroughs in nutrition, healthcare, and petcare. At the core of our successful track record are our people, our commitment to clients, Fortune 100 organizations and startups, and our desire to make a positive impact through a creative, focused, and collaborative mindset. We are currently seeking an experienced and highly motivated Multi-Physics Simulation Technical Lead to drive the development of advanced computational models of food products and food manufacturing processes. In this role, you will provide technical leadership while remaining hands-on in the design and implementation of multi-physics simulation solutions. You will mentor a Simulation Engineer, collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, and lead the development of robust simulation frameworks integrating heat and mass transfer, rheology, mechanics, and CFD. Your models become digital twins of real unit operations, possibly coupled with ML models and agentic AI, so that formulation and process decisions can be explored in seconds rather than pilot runs. You will play a key role in shaping our simulation capabilities and advancing cutting-edge research in food science and nutrition. What your daily life will look like Lead the design, development, and validation of multi-physics simulation models for food manufacturing unit operations — extrusion, baking, drying, mixing, fermentation, and beyond. Integrate multi-physics domains — heat and mass transfer, phase change, rheology, reaction kinetics, structural mechanics, CFD, and continuum mechanics — into unified multidisciplinary process models. Apply advanced numerical methods (FEM, FDTD, FVM, DEM, ODE/PDE solvers) to solve real food-science and manufacturing problems. Use Generative AI and LLMs (i.e. coding agents) to accelerate model development, connect simulation outputs to formulation/recipe databases, and support agentic AI workflows for product and process design. Integrate diverse data — pilot-plant and production data, analytical and sensory measurements, omics data — to calibrate and validate models against real-world performance. Mentor simulation engineers, set modeling standards and validation strategy, and guide technical decision-making across projects. Collaborate daily with food scientists, formulators, AI engineers, and experimental scientists to design experiments and translate results into better models. Maintain, shape and drive the technical roadmap for DEUS's simulation and digital twin capabilities, and communicate results through reports, publications, and client discussions. What your strengths are Ph.D. (or equivalent industry R&D experience) in Computational Mechanics, Food/Chemical Process Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Applied Mathematics, Bioengineering, Biophysics, Computational Biology, or related field. 5+ years in multi-physics simulation and computational modeling, ideally with direct exposure to food or bioprocess engineering. Proven track record leading technical projects and mentoring engineers or scientists. Strong expertise in FEM, FDTD, FVM, DEM, and continuum mechanics; solid experience with thermal, structural, and CFD simulation, including multiphase and non-Newtonian flow. Hands-on experience using AI — Generative AI, LLMs, ML surrogates — to accelerate simulation workflows, not just as a side interest but as a core part of how you build models. Strong programming skills in Python plus at least one of MATLAB, C++, or Fortran. Experience with simulation platforms such as COMSOL Multiphysics, ANSYS, Abaqus, OpenFOAM, or similar. Excellent analytical skills and the ability to explain complex technical concepts to multidisciplinary teams and clients. Exposure to the rheology and phase behavior of complex soft matter, or experience working alongside R&D and manufacturing teams in a CPG or ingredient environment is considered a strong fit. What it's like to work with us: DEUS EX MACHINA will provide you with the resources and advanced tools necessary to deliver best-in-class results for our clients, in a workplace that inspires collaboration and creativity. Our people are our most important asset, and we strive to provide an environment that promotes both professional growth and work-life balance. What to expect working at DEUS: We offer a competitive monthly gross salary ranging from €2.000 to €5.000, depending on your experience, technical expertise, and overall fit for the role. Flexible work schedule. Professional and personal development opportunities. Private life & health insurance. Wellbeing activities. Room to experiment, learn, and have fun. Peers with big smiles and fascinating ideas. A multidisciplinary, multinational team that values trust, autonomy, and innovation. If the description above sounds like the next step in your career, we look forward to receiving your application. Please apply with your latest CV in English.
