The role
As our EMEA business continues to grow in scale and complexity, we are looking for an experienced Multicategory Senior Technical Manager to lead the technical management of our comanufacturers across the UK, EU, Japan and other emerging markets (excluding the US).
You will be responsible for maintaining the safety, quality and compliance standards across Powders, Bars, Hot & Savoury, Ramen and new categories throughout our EMEA co-manufacturing network. You will lead and develop a team comprising a Technical Manager and a Specifications Technologist. Drawing on your deep manufacturing and technical expertise, you will drive consistent standards across a diverse product portfolio, build strong partnerships with our co-manufacturers and collaborate closely with Supply Chain, Procurement, NPD, Nutrition and Sustainability. This role will report into our new Head of EMEA Quality and Food Safety. Here's a glimpse of the day to day:
Team Leadership
Lead and develop a brilliant technical team! Manage a Technical Manager responsible for UK/EU/JP co-manufacturers and a Technologist focused on specification creation and management, providing clear direction and helping the team deliver on business and departmental goals.
Be the go-to escalation point for your team, ensuring consistent standards, pragmatic decision-making and clear ownership across the function.
Support your team's growth and development, coaching and mentoring individuals to build their technical expertise, confidence and leadership capabilities.
Co-Manufacturer & Supplier Management
Take ownership of our EMEA co-manufacturers across Powders, Hot & Savoury, Bars and any new categories (excluding RTD), supporting NPD/EPD, factory trials, investigations, issue resolution and KPI performance.
Lead supplier approval sign-offs and co-manufacturer approval and onboarding across EMEA, making sure our partners meet Huel's technical and quality standards.
Play a key role in selecting the right co-manufacturing partners, providing technical guidance and challenging where needed to ensure we're set up for success.
Quality, Safety & Compliance
Stay one step ahead of regulatory and market changes across EMEA, adapting processes to keep Huel safe, compliant and ready for what's next.
Help shape and continuously improve our internal Quality Management System, ensuring EMEA processes align with Huel's global QFS standards and the Huelway Code.
Act as an internal and external auditor, supporting BRC and other GFSI audit requirements and helping maintain the high standards we're known for.
Lead complaints investigations across our EMEA co-manufacturers, identifying root causes, driving corrective actions and turning learnings into meaningful process improvements.
Performance & Continuous Improvement
Take ownership of co-manufacturer KPI performance across your categories, regularly reviewing results, challenging performance and identifying opportunities to improve.
Be the go-to person for CPMU performance across your co-manufacturers, driving initiatives to reduce complaints and improve quality while keeping key stakeholders informed.
Keep teams close to what's happening! Report on technical and quality performance, helping shape the vision and drive improvement plans across the region.
Get stuck into factory trials and first productions, advising on production parameters and ensuring our products consistently meet Huel's safety, quality and brand standards.
Strategic Contribution
Partner with our Head of Quality & Food Safety EMEA to review and guide external Huel projects relevant to the region, bringing your technical expertise and recommendations to the table.
Support the development, implementation and embedding of safety and quality processes across Huel, challenging us to go beyond local regulatory requirements where appropriate.
Play an active role in shaping our wider EMEA Technical and Operations strategy, collaborating across teams to deliver shared business objectives.
Be better than yesterday! Bring an entrepreneurial mindset, challenge existing ways of working and spot opportunities to improve processes, performance and standards beyond your immediate responsibilities.
What we're looking for in you
Significant experience in a senior technical role within food manufacturing, ideally with exposure to multiple product categories and a strong understanding of what it takes to deliver brilliant quality standards.
A proven people leader who knows how to develop, coach and inspire a team, including experience line managing Technical Managers or similar roles.
Strong analytical skills and a curious mindset, with the ability to dig into data, challenge assumptions and spot trends, risks and opportunities that others might miss.
A confident decision-maker who can navigate a fast-paced, complex environment, balancing commercial priorities with technical requirements.
A pragmatic approach to problem-solving, knowing when to take ownership, make decisions and escalate issues at the right time.
Calm and decisive under pressure, with the confidence to lead through challenging situations and quality crises while protecting Huel and our customers.
Experience working with third-party manufacturers or co-manufacturers would be a big plus!
A thorough understanding of food safety, business risk, EU/UK food legislation and GFSI manufacturing standards. Knowledge of Japanese or other emerging market regulations would be an added bonus.
A brilliant relationship builder and confident negotiator who can influence, challenge and collaborate effectively with suppliers and manufacturing partners.
Hands-on experience with BRC standards and auditing, with the confidence to challenge and maintain high standards.
A relevant degree would be beneficial, but it's not essential - we're more interested in the experience and expertise you bring!
Happy to get out and about! You'll need a full UK driving licence and be comfortable travelling across the UK, EU and occasionally further afield.
