About the job
We are hiring a Network Architect for a renowned Global Technology Client in Japan on a 3-month contract, extendable by a further 3 months. This is a fully remote role. You can work from your country of residence, but you must work in Japan Standard Time (JST). A great company culture with lots of opportunities to learn and grow. In the role, you will design and deploy a Meraki-managed wireless solution with a dedicated MX450 for Guest traffic concentration, integrated with the client’s existing CLI-managed Catalyst 9300 switching. You will also establish a validated, repeatable design for future sites.
Overview: The role is for a self-motivated individual with strong wireless and network architecture skills and hands-on Meraki experience. The candidate will be extensively involved in design, documentation, configuration and validation. Candidate must be agile and flexible with changing priorities based on the team’s needs.
What you’ll do:
- Design and deploy a Meraki-managed wireless solution comprising three CW9166 APs and one MX450 for Guest traffic concentration
- Integrate the solution with existing CLI-managed Catalyst 9300 switches
- Replicate the existing Cisco 9800 Production and Guest SSID configuration in the Meraki Dashboard
- Validate the design end to end, and document it as a repeatable template for rollout to additional sites
Technical requirements:
Area Requirements
1. Meraki wireless deployment
Deploy 3 x Cisco CW9166 APs (already purchased, in Meraki-managed mode). Configure and manage the APs through the Meraki Dashboard. Validate AP connectivity, RF operation, client association and roaming.
2. SSID configuration
Build Production and Guest SSIDs in the Meraki Dashboard, replicating the relevant configuration from the existing Cisco 9800 WLC. Include authentication/RADIUS, VLAN tagging, bridge/tunnel behavior, security policies, firewall rules and traffic shaping as applicable. This is a new configuration, not an SSID migration.
3. Guest traffic concentration
Deploy 1 x new MX450 specifically to concentrate/tunnel wireless Guest traffic. Define the MX450 connectivity, routing/VLANs and required L3/L7 firewall/security policies. No SD-WAN/AutoVPN scope unless required specifically for guest traffic transport.
4. Catalyst 9300 integration
Integrate the Meraki APs with the existing Catalyst 9300 switches, which remain traditionally managed through CLI. Configure/validate switch ports, VLANs, trunks, PoE, QoS, spanning tree and required uplinks. No conversion of the 9300s to Meraki management.
5. Design, validation & site template
Produce a current-state wireless/guest network diagram and LLD for the MX450 design/deployment. Validate RADIUS/authentication, Production and Guest connectivity, guest traffic forwarding, firewall policy, roaming and failure scenarios. Document the completed design as a repeatable template for rollout to additional sites.
What you’ll need:
- 10+ years of professional experience in enterprise wireless and network design, with proven hands-on delivery of Cisco Meraki wireless (MR/CW series) and MX appliances
- Strong knowledge of Cisco Catalyst switching (9300), including VLANs, trunks, PoE, QoS, spanning tree and CLI configuration
- Experience with Cisco 9800 WLC and the ability to translate its SSID, RADIUS and security policy configuration into Meraki
- Guest wireless design: tunneling/concentration, L3/L7 firewall policy, VLAN and routing design
- RADIUS/802.1X authentication, RF validation and roaming testing
- Ability to produce clear current-state diagrams, LLDs and repeatable site templates
- Preferred: CCNP Enterprise / CCIE, Cisco Meraki certification (CMNA or equivalent), and prior work with Japanese or APAC clients
- Ability to work JST hours consistently
- Must be legally eligible to work in your country of residence without sponsorship
