Job Description We are seeking a skilled JavaScript Developer to work across our frontend and backend systems, helping us build and scale our web and mobile experiences, AI-driven workflows, and partner integration platform. You will work closely with product, design, AI, and backend teams to deliver features that directly impact healthcare access for millions of users. As a Node JS developer, you will play a critical role in developing and maintaining high-performance, scalable backend services that drive our cutting-edge applications. You will work in a collaborative environment to build efficient and reliable systems that adapt to the evolving needs of our users. Key Responsibilities · Build and maintain web and mobile application features using JavaScript-based frameworks · Develop user-facing features for health chat, voice, image upload, and marketplace flows · Work on backend services and APIs that power AwaDoc’s AI workflows and partner integrations · Integrate third-party APIs (AI services, payments, telemedicine, pharmacy, labs) · Collaborate with designers to translate UI/UX into clean, accessible interfaces · Optimize applications for performance, low bandwidth, and mobile-first users · Write clean, reusable, and well-documented code · Participate in code reviews and uphold engineering best practices · Support deployment, monitoring, and debugging in production environments Requirements · Strong proficiency in JavaScript (ES6+) · Experience with React.js / Next.js or similar frontend frameworks · Experience with Node.js and building RESTful APIs · Familiarity with databases (PostgreSQL, MongoDB, or similar) · Experience integrating third-party APIs aVERnd webhooks · Understanding of authentication, authorization, and data security basics · Ability to write maintainable, testable code · Comfortable working in a remote, fast-moving startup environment Benefits · Build technology that directly improves healthcare access across Africa · Work on real-world AI and health systems at scale · Flexible remote work environment · Opportunity to grow with a mission-driven health-tech startup · Exposure to product, AI, and systems thinking beyond just coding Desired Candidate Profile · Good communication skills · Good, positive attitude · Good debugging and problem-solving skills · Good IQ · Lots of common sense
