The Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development is a state agency established to promote workforce development and improve workplace safety and health throughout the state.

How You Make a Difference In This Role

The best candidate for this role has experience in the nuclear industry, nuclear energy, advanced energy, economic development, workforce development, business strategy, talent development, or a closely related field. This candidate can demonstrate knowledge of nuclear workforce needs, occupations, skills, credentials, or talent pipelines. Candidate has the ability to diagnose business and workforce challenges and translate them into practical strategies with experience using industry intelligence, employer input, workforce information, or data to identify trends and inform decisions. Must have strong executive communication, presentation, facilitation, relationship-building, and written communication skills. Be able to demonstrate initiative, independent judgment, adaptability, and ability to operate effectively with limited day-to-day direction. The best candidate will have the knowledge of Tennessee's workforce, education, economic development, or nuclear ecosystem preferred. Ability to travel frequently within Tennessee and as needed for industry meetings, employer engagements, conferences, and statewide initiatives.

Job Overview

Reporting directly to the Executive Director of TNWorks, the Nuclear Workforce Strategist leads TNWorks' nuclear workforce portfolio and serves as a trusted adviser, sector connector, and workforce concierge for nuclear employers and suppliers across Tennessee.The Strategist represents TNWorks and TDLWD in industry meetings, convenings, working groups, employer engagements, and other forums as appropriate, including representing the Executive Director or agency leadership when delegated. The role works closely with TNWorks Regional Directors and core partners to translate industry needs into coordinated workforce strategies, clear actions, and measurable outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary TNWorks workforce contact for nuclear operators, developers, employers, suppliers, contractors, laboratories, industry associations, and related stakeholders.
  • Engage employers strategically to understand the business conditions behind workforce challenges, not only immediate vacancies or program requests.
  • Support the Executive Director in developing, implementing, and refining Tennessee's statewide nuclear workforce strategy.
  • Identify gaps in Tennessee's nuclear talent pipelines and work with partners to develop, strengthen, align, or scale pathways where needed.
  • Maintain current knowledge of nuclear industry developments, investments, projects, technologies, workforce trends, occupations, and talent requirements affecting Tennessee.

Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree.
