Is this job info correct?

Location: Remote (U.S.), preference for Denver, CO metro | Reports to: Executive Director | Status: Full-Time, Exempt

Compensation: $70,000–85,000, commensurate with experience

About MyFriendBen

MyFriendBen is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to making it easy for people to understand and access the government benefits, tax credits, and nonprofit programs they're eligible for. Our free, anonymous online screening tool checks eligibility for 40+ programs in minutes and estimates their dollar value — with no cost to use and a promise never to sell user data.

Originally incubated at Gary Community Ventures in Colorado, MyFriendBen is now an independent nonprofit with its national hub based in Denver and is expanding into additional states. To date, MyFriendBen has connected more than 140,000 households to benefits, for an estimated $85 million in impact, with families identifying an average of $2,500 per month in benefits and tax credits.

Position Summary

The Operations Manager / Project Manager keeps MyFriendBen running smoothly day to day. This role owns internal operations — systems, tools, vendors, and administrative processes — and coordinates cross-team projects so a fast-growing, distributed team stays organized, efficient, and on track as we expand into new states.

This is a hands-on execution role. The Operations Manager works closely with the Executive Director and leadership team to translate organizational priorities into clear plans, timelines, and processes, and makes sure the details get done. The ideal candidate is highly organized, resourceful, and comfortable juggling multiple workstreams in a small, startup-style nonprofit.

This is a remote position with a preference for candidates based in or near Denver, CO, who can work periodically from MyFriendBen's Denver hub as needed.

Essential Functions and ResponsibilitiesOperations
  • Manage day-to-day organizational operations, including contracts administration, vendor coordination, and internal systems (project management, communication, and documentation tools).
  • Support budget administration, including tracking expenses, processing invoices, and helping prepare budget updates in partnership with the Executive Director.
  • Maintain internal policies, processes, and documentation that keep a growing, multi-state team consistent and efficient.
  • Manage relationships with outside vendors (payroll, IT, tools and software) and evaluate new tools or partners as needs evolve.
  • Identify and implement improvements to internal operations as MyFriendBen expands into new states.

Project Management
  • Coordinate cross-team projects from kickoff to completion — defining scope, timelines, owners, and deliverables, and keeping work moving.
  • Run internal project tracking, including maintaining the project management system, surfacing risks and blockers, and keeping stakeholders informed.
  • Support organizational planning, helping translate annual priorities into concrete workplans and tracking progress against them.
  • Prepare internal reports and updates on operational metrics and project status for leadership.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple workstreams and deadlines at once.
  • Working knowledge of nonprofit operations, including budgeting basics, contracts, and vendor management.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to build trust and keep work coordinated across a remote, distributed team.
  • Resourceful, detail-oriented, and comfortable operating independently in a small, fast-growing nonprofit environment.
  • Proficiency with project management, communication, and general operations tools; quick to learn new systems.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
  • 3+ years of experience in operations, project management, or administration, ideally within a nonprofit or startup-style environment.
  • Demonstrated track record of managing projects or operational processes from start to finish.

Preferred:

  • Passion for MyFriendBen's mission of expanding equitable, dignified access to public benefits.
  • Experience supporting a distributed, multi-state team.
  • Familiarity with technology-enabled or data-driven nonprofit programs.

Work Environment and Travel
  • Remote and hybrid position; preference for candidates based in or near Denver, CO, with flexibility to work periodically from MyFriendBen's Denver hub.
  • Up to 10% travel expected for team retreats and organizational events.
