Payments Compliance & Risk Manager
Build the Controls Behind Every Payment
Full-Time | Flexible / Remote | 40 hrs/week, flexible schedule
PH Financial Services LLC is seeking an experienced Payments Compliance & Risk Manager to oversee the day-to-day operations of our risk and underwriting function. You'll play a key role in developing, implementing, and maintaining the processes and controls that keep us compliant with payment industry requirements — including Nacha Operating Rules, card brand rules, sponsor bank requirements, and Flex policies.
Working under the guidance of the Director of Compliance, you'll spot opportunities for improvement, design effective processes, coordinate implementation, and hand new processes off to the team responsible for running them. This is a hands-on leadership role that blends people management, compliance, process development, project management, and cross-functional collaboration — with supervisory responsibility for the Risk and Underwriting team.
What You'll Do
- Lead your team — provide day-to-day direction, priorities, and workload management; coach, mentor, and train your direct reports; and promote accountability and adherence to risk and compliance controls.
- Build better processes — find gaps and inefficiencies in onboarding, underwriting support, and monitoring workflows, then create the procedures, checklists, guides, and forms to fix them.
- Build compliance in from the start — incorporate KYC/KYB, OFAC, MATCH, third-party sender requirements, return monitoring, and chargeback monitoring into every process.
- Drive implementations — coordinate requirements, configuration, testing, and go-live with vendors, IT, and business users, train the team, and serve as the business owner for IRIS.
- Keep compliance on track — monitor open projects, deadlines, and recurring responsibilities (like annual merchant reviews), resolve items at risk of slipping, and update leadership regularly.
- Partner across the company — be the go-to process and risk contact for Sales, IT, and vendors, and help your team understand not just what is required, but why it matters.
What You'll Bring
- 5+ years of compliance or risk experience in a regulated financial services organization (bank, credit union, lender, fintech, or payment processor)
- 2+ years of supervisory or team leadership experience
- Experience designing, implementing, and improving processes, systems, or controls — and transitioning them to the team that runs them
- Working knowledge of BSA/AML, KYC/KYB, and other financial services compliance requirements
- A strong understanding of risk and underwriting controls and effective checks and balances
- Excellent procedure writing, documentation, organization, and project-tracking skills
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for employees, vendors, and senior leadership
- Independence — and the judgment to know when to escalate
- Comfort owning a project end to end: identify the need, design the solution, implement and test it, train the team, monitor the results, and hand it off
Nice to Have
- Payments industry experience (ACH, card, ISO, payment facilitator, TPSP, or ODFI environments)
- Knowledge of Nacha Operating Rules and card brand rules
- Nacha AAP or APRP, ETA CPP, CAMS, or similar certification
- Experience implementing or supporting an underwriting, onboarding, risk, or CRM platform
- Prior underwriting experience
- Experience supporting sponsor bank audits, regulatory examinations, or compliance reviews
- Experience working with vendors and technology teams on system implementations
Schedule & Location
This is a full-time position of approximately 40 hours per week with a flexible schedule and flexible location / remote work arrangement. You'll interact regularly with internal teams, vendors, and leadership, and occasional meetings outside standard business hours may be needed.
Compensation
Pay for this position is competitive and will be based on the candidate's experience, skills, and qualifications.
If you enjoy turning compliance requirements into clear, working processes — and leading a team while you do it — we'd love to hear from you!
