Location:

Lead the platform behind a business-critical Swiss Re product—and stay close to the engineering. We’re looking for a hands-on leader who enjoys solving technical challenges, leading people and helping development teams deliver.

About the Team and the Product

You’ll work on SPIRE, a product that helps Swiss Re’s Non-Life reserving actuaries calculate the reserves the company needs to hold on its books. These calculations make SPIRE a business-critical system.

The Platform team builds and maintains the infrastructure that SPIRE runs on. It also supports seven software development teams that maintain existing application features and develop new ones.

The team currently has three members and will grow to four, plus you as the lead. All four team members will report directly to you. This role combines people management and technical leadership, with hands-on engineering as an essential part of the job.

We believe that scaling successfully requires self-organisation and autonomy. We don’t micromanage our teams—we give them room to make decisions and expect strong ownership in return.

About the Role

You’ll work alongside your team to build, maintain and improve reliable infrastructure. You’ll also help shape and implement the next steps for the SPIRE platform.

Some of our main priorities are to:

  • Improve our release process.

  • Migrate to a new observability platform.

  • Migrate to a new CI/CD pipeline library.

  • Move from team-managed infrastructure and services to centrally provisioned solutions across Kubernetes, RabbitMQ, Azure SQL and Redis.

You’ll help turn these priorities into practical plans and drive their implementation with the team. Throughout this work, you’ll make sure our infrastructure complies with Swiss Re’s centrally defined rules and guidelines.

Our Technology Stack

The main technologies in our stack are:

  • Cloud, data and analytics: Azure, Azure Data Factory, Azure SQL, Databricks, Azure Synapse and Power BI.

  • Development, delivery and automation: Azure DevOps, Azure DevOps YAML pipelines, Maven, Bash and Terraform.

  • Containers: Kubernetes and Helm.

  • Messaging: RabbitMQ and Azure Service Bus.

  • Observability: Kibana, Prometheus and Elastic Observability.

You don’t need experience with every tool in our stack. What matters is a strong engineering foundation and a willingness to learn new technologies.

About You

You bring a strong software development background and enjoy leading a team while staying actively involved in engineering.

You should be familiar with:

  • Infrastructure as code (IaC).

  • Release processes, trunk-based development and related tooling.

  • Continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD).

  • Observability.

  • The software development lifecycle (SDLC) and agile ways of working.

  • Messaging middleware, such as Kafka, RabbitMQ or Azure Service Bus.

Beyond your technical skills, you quickly find your way around an existing technical environment and understand how the organisation works.

You stay calm when systems fail. You can distinguish what is essential from what is important but can wait, spot patterns in the chaos and stay focused on priorities—even in a noisy environment.

You communicate clearly and establish effective communication channels across teams. You take ownership of the topics you lead, recognise when action is needed and move things forward without waiting for reminders from your manager.

For Slovakia the base salary range for this position is between 3 800 EUR and 6 300 EUR per month (for a full-time role). The specific salary offered considers:

  • the requirements, scope, complexity and responsibilities of the role,

  • the applicant’s own profile including education/qualifications, expertise, specialisation, skills and experience.

In addition to your base salary, Swiss Re offers an attractive performance-based variable compensation component, designed to recognise your achievements. Further you will enjoy a variety of global and location specific benefits.

Eligibility may vary depending on the terms of Swiss Re policies and your employment contract.
