POS Merchant Onboarding Associate - Italian Speaking (Payments)

Fluent in Italian and curious about payments? No experience in payments needed: we will teach you.

More and more merchants choose wamo, a fast-growing payments fintech, and our POS team is growing with them. We are looking for someone eager to learn who will help them get started.

About the Role

As our POS Merchant Onboarding Associate, you will review new merchant applications, check merchant information and documents (similar to KYC/KYB checks), and make sure onboarding decisions are accurate and on time. You will work closely with our Italian team and merchants, and escalate higher-risk cases to Compliance and Risk. The role is based in our Malta office.

What you’ll do

Reviewing applications

• Review POS applications and transactions from merchants across markets that need a manual check (underwriting)

• Check merchant information, documents and business activities, using your Italian where needed

• Make accurate onboarding decisions for Italian-speaking and other merchants, on time and within our service levels (SLA)

Spotting risk

• Spot suspicious, incomplete or higher-risk cases and escalate them to our Compliance and Risk teams, following our procedures

• Keep clear notes on each review and escalation

What you’ll bring

• Fluent Italian and good English

• Based in Malta

• No payments experience needed, just a real wish to learn

• A good eye for detail: you check information carefully and consistently

• You follow procedures, deadlines and escalation steps reliably

• You notice when something does not look right, such as missing information or inconsistencies

• You explain your findings clearly to colleagues in POS Operations, Compliance and Risk

• Nice to have: knowledge of the Italian market
