If you’re a storyteller, a relationship-builder, a strategic thinker, and someone who believes great communication can make a difference—this might be the role you’ve been looking for.
SUMMARY
Reporting to the Chief Strategy and Comms Officer (CSCO), the PR and Social Media Specialist builds and executes Alive's proactive media relations and social media strategy, and supports internal and executive communications. This role is a strategic and analytical partner to the Brand Manager on social content, and an independent owner of media relations and internal communications. The ideal candidate is a strong, self-directed writer and communicator who identifies opportunities, makes sound editorial judgment calls independently, and is confident navigating a matrixed organization.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Serves as the primary voice of Alive across all communications channels, ensuring consistency of message, tone, and brand regardless of subject matter or audience.
- Proactively collaborates across all organizational functions — including clinical, operations, advancement, the Alive Institute, and programs — to identify and develop compelling stories about patients, donors, team members, and community impact.
- Owns Alive's proactive media relations program: builds and maintains a local and regional media list, develops story angles and pitches, and independently secures earned coverage across TV, print, digital, and radio.
- Owns Alive's social media strategy and execution end-to-end across all platforms: content strategy and calendar, copywriting, scheduling, posting, community engagement, and performance reporting. Partners with the Creative and Brand Manager to develop visual and graphic content.
- Develops content in support of cross-functional partners to strengthen community engagement, elevate program visibility, and support fundraising and campaign messaging. Serves as a strategic content partner to these teams, translating their goals into communications that resonate with external audiences.
- Drafts internal staff communications, including all-staff announcements, internal newsletters, and leadership updates, with minimal editing required from the CSCO.
- Supports executive visibility for the leadership team as necessary, including LinkedIn content, speaking opportunity research, and thought leadership logistics.
- Exercises independent judgment on day-to-day content, pitching, and messaging decisions consistent with Alive's brand voice and tonality, escalating matters of strategic or reputational significance to the leadership team.
- Maintains and applies working knowledge of Alive's brand standards across all external and internal communications.
- Tracks and reports on media placements and social engagement metrics against established benchmarks.
- Represents Alive professionally in interactions with media contacts, community partners, and internal stakeholders.
- Produces content on sensitive, mission-driven subject matter with appropriate tone and discretion.
- Invests time in understanding the organization's mission, programs, and culture at a deep level to ensure all communications are grounded in operational reality and organizational values.
- Other duties may also be duties as assigned.
