Job Description

About AXA:

AXA is a global leader in insurance and financial services, dedicated to helping customers protect what matters most to them. As the sixth-largest insurance company in the world, we provide a wide range of services, including health, car, home, and business insurance. We support millions of customers worldwide, helping them navigate life's uncertainties with confidence.

AXA Health supports members to put their health first, from individuals to huge corporates, with fast access to diagnosis and treatment when they need it.

Job overview:

We’re looking for a dedicated Assistant Underwriter to join our AXA Health team on a 12 month FTC. Reporting to the Large Corporate Portfolio Manager, you’ll play a vital part in liaising with the Intermediary Distribution team and intermediaries. Your key responsibilities will include reviewing quote requests, ensuring all necessary data is complete, and preparing large corporate quotes for underwriting. If you’re detail-oriented, customer focused, proactive, and eager to develop your underwriting skills within a collaborative environment, this is an excellent opportunity to grow your career.

Key responsibilities:

  • Enter large corporate quotes into the system, understanding AXA and competitor products, and spotting any compliance or risk issues.
  • Manage the quote inbox and work queue, working with Account Managers and Intermediaries to meet deadlines.
  • Check and question information from Account Managers and Intermediaries, raising concerns with underwriters if needed.
  • Help underwriters with administrative tasks to keep things running smoothly.
  • Solve problems with quote requests or information, working professionally with external intermediaries.
  • Assist with onboarding new schemes and help price simple insurance and non-insurance products, including training new team members.

Work arrangements:

At AXA we work smart, empowering our people to balance their time between home and the office in a way that works best for them, their team and our customers. You'll work at least two days a week (40%) away from home, moving to three days a week (60%) from December 2026. Away from home means attending the office, visiting clients or attending industry events. You’ll be required in the office for 5 days per week for the first 8-12 weeks of your training.

Your skills & experience:

  • Strong ability to manage administrative tasks efficiently, accurately, and with keen attention to detail.
  • proven experience in a customer services role.
  • Excellent decision-making skills combined with superb customer service and communication abilities.
  • A collaborative team player who works well under pressure and demonstrates initiative.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications and comfortable handling numerical data.
  • Curious and analytical mindset, with the ability to assess, challenge, and interpret information from Intermediary partners.

Internal candidates are encouraged to apply for this role as a secondment opportunity through the internal careers site.

As a precondition of employment for this role, you must be eligible and authorised to work in the United Kingdom.

This position has been defined as an Insurance Distribution Directive (IDD) role under the IDD regime which means that in addition to pre-employment screening checks, the successful candidate will be subject to background screening every 4 years with an annual declaration in interim years.
