Show job description

Own the infrastructure behind hotels, resorts and holiday parks.

The opportunity

The foundations are in place. Our AWS stack was re-architected about two years ago, and the move from SQL Server to PostgreSQL is nearly done. What's left is the good part: cutting cloud cost, consolidating AWS and Azure, and automating incident response so we scale without adding headcount.

Why you'll enjoy this role

Whole estate ownership. Monitoring, alerting, cost and modernisation across four regions all sit with you.

A team to grow. Mentor junior engineers and decide how work is shared, so capability grows with the estate.

Real authority. You review production changes from Engineering and can sign them off or block them when risk isn't covered.

What you'll take on

  • Own the architecture, performance and resilience of our cloud infrastructure across four regions.
  • Reduce cloud cost and consolidate AWS and Azure, finding the waste and planning its removal.
  • Automate monitoring, alerting and incident response to cut on-call load and speed up recovery.
  • Help land the SQL Server to PostgreSQL migration, then lead future modernisation with clear rollback plans and runbooks.
  • Review Engineering's production changes and hold the line on infrastructure risk.
  • Mentor junior engineers and allocate their work, so knowledge is shared, not held by one person.

The team you'll join

You'll report to the CIO and guide a group of junior engineers in Technical Services. You'll work closely with our AI and Data team and our software engineering teams.

What you'll bring

  • Significant experience in infrastructure, site reliability or platform engineering, owning production at scale.
  • Hands on AWS experience, including networking, ideally with Kubernetes and Aurora or RDS PostgreSQL.
  • A track record of automating alerting, monitoring and incident response.
  • Comfort being on call: a 24/7 roster about one week in four, with a 10 minute response time.
  • The ability to mentor engineers and explain infrastructure work in terms of cost, risk and customer impact.

How we work

Every RMS role sits within one of our work modes, a flexible framework that is trust-based and outcomes-focused, with meaningful remote working and clear expectations about how we stay connected.

For this role, you'll work within our Metro-Anchored mode, based within commuting distance of our Melbourne office, with no fixed office days but the expectation you can come together with the team in person when it matters.

We're async-first, using Slack to share context and collaborate across time zones. We also expect everyone to build AI fluency relevant to their role, and to use it thoughtfully to improve how they work.

Life at RMS

RMS is a global hospitality technology company helping operators run better businesses and create better experiences for their guests. We're ambitious about where the product and business are going, and the way we work continues to evolve alongside them.

A few things worth knowing:

  • We value ownership. You'll have room to make decisions, and we expect people to take responsibility for moving things forward.
  • Not everything comes with a playbook. We're continuing to improve our products, processes and ways of working. You'll sometimes need to create clarity rather than wait for it.
  • We stay curious. Whether it's AI, new technology or simply a better way of solving an old problem, we want people who are willing to experiment, learn and share what works.
  • We're global. You'll work with people, customers and partners across multiple regions, so thoughtful communication and collaboration matter.
  • We care about outcomes. Ideas are valuable, but turning them into something that improves the experience for our customers, our teams or our business is what really counts.

And you can be yourself here. We're an equal opportunities employer, made up of people with different backgrounds, experiences, personalities and perspectives. That mix makes better ideas and better products for customers all over the world, and it means there isn't one type of person who fits at RMS.

Our values are simple: Committed to customer. Honest words, trusted actions. Push boundaries, stay curious. Own it, make it happen.
