Position Overview:
The Principal Network Engineer will be responsible for the architecture, design, deployment, and long-term technical ownership of Fleet Data Centers' network infrastructure supporting our hyperscale data center campuses. This role will serve as Fleet's subject matter expert for fiber infrastructure, structured cabling systems, carrier connectivity, and operational technology (OT) networks, including IoT, BMS, and EPMS environments.
The successful candidate will partner closely with customers, Product, Design, Construction, Operations, and external service providers to develop scalable, resilient, and secure network solutions that support Fleet's growing portfolio of campuses. This individual will establish technical standards, evaluate emerging technologies, guide complex infrastructure decisions, and provide technical leadership throughout the full project lifecycle from planning and design through construction, commissioning, and operations.
This role is highly technical and hands-on, requiring deep expertise in fiber infrastructure design, network architecture, and mission-critical environments. The Principal Network Engineer will serve as Fleet's technical authority for network infrastructure, ensuring network solutions meet the performance, reliability, and scalability requirements of the world's largest cloud and AI customers.
Key Responsibilities:
- Network Architecture & Design: Develop and maintain network architecture standards for Fleet's hyperscale data center campuses.
- Network Architecture & Design: Create network design drawings, rack elevations, and site infrastructure documentation.
- Network Architecture & Design: Review due diligence materials and drive network scope definition according to project requirements.
- Network Architecture & Design: Design scalable, resilient, and secure network infrastructure supporting Fleet's campus operations, fiber backbone, structured cabling systems, and operational technology environments.
- Network Architecture & Design: Define standards supporting security, IoT, BMS, and EPMS networks.
- Network Architecture & Design: Partner with customers to understand connectivity requirements and translate those requirements into repeatable Fleet design standards.
- Network Architecture & Design: Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend solutions that enhance reliability, scalability, operational efficiency, and maintainability.

Required Qualifications:
- Experience & Expertise: 10+ years of experience in network engineering, fiber infrastructure, telecommunications, or related mission-critical environments.
- Experience & Expertise: Extensive firsthand experience designing, deploying, and maintaining large-scale network infrastructure.
- Experience & Expertise: Deep expertise in fiber infrastructure design, structured cabling systems, and carrier connectivity.
- Experience & Expertise: Experience supporting network infrastructure throughout planning, design, construction, commissioning, and operational phases.
- Experience & Expertise: Strong understanding of mission-critical infrastructure requirements within data centers, cloud environments, telecommunications networks, or similar industries.
- Experience & Expertise: Experience serving as a technical lead, subject matter expert, principal engineer, or equivalent technical authority.
- Technical Knowledge: Advanced knowledge of fiber optic technologies, structured cabling systems, and network infrastructure design.

- Hyperscaler: Familiarity with (AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud, Oracle Cloud, and Meta) cloud providers’ data center requirements.
- Cloud Certifications: Relevant cloud certifications (e.g., AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Azure Fundamentals, etc.).
- Global Experience: Experience leading product launches in global markets, including knowledge of international land, energy and/or data center regulations and compliance.
- Technical Background: A strong technical understanding of cloud services, networking, and software development lifecycles.
- Professional Development: Industry certifications or formal training in fiber optics, structured cabling, telecommunications, or network engineering.
