The Principal Research Scientist, Wildlife Ecology holds a key science leadership position in a dynamic and challenging area of biodiversity research within the Arthur Rylah Institute (ARI), the Victorian Government's biodiversity research institute. The position is responsible for undertaking and supporting scientific research to inform evidence-based policy and natural resource management. This role provides a unique opportunity to mentor and support scientific staff and guide internationally recognised applied ecological research.
The successful candidate will have extensive experience in high quality biodiversity research and project management, with a sound understanding of best practice research processes and techniques. They will have well-developed leadership, collaboration and stakeholder management skills, and enjoy working in a collaborative environment. As a member of the ARI Senior Leadership Team, the Principal Research Scientist will contribute to fostering an energetic science culture, supports the development of future science capability and contribute to organisational strategy that supports ARI into the future.
Specialist/Technical Expertise/Qualifications
- A science degree (preferably PhD) with a major in ecology or equivalent is mandatory.
- Demonstrated experience in research management, facilitation and co-ordination of large scale multidisciplinary ecological research teams.
- Demonstrated skills and experience in leadership, communication and the ability to engage with a broad range of stakeholders to develop and deliver complex ecological research.
This is a fixed term position available for a period of 18 Months. The work location for this position is flexible within Victoria with hybrid work arrangements available.
