Our client is seeking highly experienced Process Engineers for a six-month contract within its Delivery function. The successful candidates will bridge business and technical requirements, producing detailed, build-ready process specifications covering inputs, outputs, decision rules, data flows and exception paths. The role requires deep experience in banking transformation, continuous improvement, South African payments and bank accounting, with advanced business and technical process-modelling capability.
Candidates should ideally bring more than 10 years of relevant experience; a minimum of 7 years in business analysis, process analysis or business process management is required.
Key Responsibilities & Deliverables
• Process documentation: Document current and new technical and business processes, ensuring transparency, consistency and traceability across the technology stack.
• Process analysis and improvement: Identify inefficiencies, bottlenecks, duplication and non-value-adding activities; present findings to stakeholders and drive improvements to efficiency, client experience and service performance. Apply Lean Six Sigma principles and facilitate cross-functional collaboration.
• BPMN 2.0 process models: Develop end-to-end current-state and target-state process models at a level business owners can review and approve, with one diagram per process rather than one per rule.
• Business rules and decisions: Maintain a catalogue of every rule and decision, including a unique ID, status, owner and source. Represent decisions in DMN decision tables.
• Accounting flows: Specify each posting with debit, credit, amount and trigger; identify suspense and control accounts, general ledger (GL) mappings and reconciliation points.
• Data mappings: Map payment fields to ISO 20022 messages, flagging truncation or data loss; map account data to the target data model.
• Acceptance tests: Translate each business rule into a test with defined inputs and expected results to support comparison between legacy and replacement systems.
• Simplification log: Record existing behaviours the business intends to remove or change so they are not inadvertently rebuilt.
• Open questions: Maintain unresolved items as explicit questions assigned to named owners; do not substitute assumptions for missing evidence.
Qualifications & Experience
• Bachelor’s degree or relevant qualification in Business Analysis, Information Systems, Finance, Accounting, IT, Industrial Engineering or a related field.
• At least 7 years’ experience in business analysis, process analysis or business process management, preferably in banking, payments or financial services; 10+ years strongly preferred.
• Demonstrated expertise in BPMN 2.0, requirements gathering, business rules and decision modelling.
• Experience in data mapping, system transformation or migration, and acceptance testing.
• Understanding of payment processing, accounting entries, GL mappings and reconciliation.
• Exposure to ISO 20022 and DMN decision tables is highly advantageous.
• Business Analysis or Process Management certification is advantageous; ISO 20022, DMN or financial services training/certification is beneficial.
Core Competencies
• Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving and process-improvement capability.
• Ability to translate complex technical and business requirements into accurate, actionable specifications.
• Excellent stakeholder engagement, workshop facilitation and communication skills.
• Meticulous attention to detail, traceability, documentation quality and accuracy.
