Job Description

Position: Product Application Specialist - Water Solutions

Primary Location: Home Based - Southeast, US

Schedule: Monday to Friday, necessary travel

Reports To: Sales Application Supervisor

Compensation: $95,000- $105,000 + bonus + benefits.

Salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. More specific salary range for your preferred location can be discussed during the hiring process. Please note that the compensation details listed reflect the base salary only, and do not include bonus, benefits, pension contributions or additional incentives.

About This Role and You

The Applications Specialist serves as a strategic partner to the Sales, Applications, and Marketing teams with a primary focus on identifying new business opportunities, generating sales growth, and expanding market share for water treatment chemical solutions. This role combines technical application expertise with proactive business development activities, supporting customer acquisition, territory expansion, and revenue growth initiatives. The individual will leverage technical knowledge, field testing capabilities, and consultative selling techniques to identify prospects, support sales opportunities, demonstrate product value, and help customers optimize treatment programs.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, Biology, Environmental Science, Chemical Engineering, or related field.
  • 2-5 years of experience in water treatment, technical sales, business development, or related industries.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify and develop new business opportunities.
  • Strong consultative selling, relationship-building, and prospecting skills.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Must be willing to travel up to 50-70%.

Responsibilities

  • Identify, qualify, and develop new business opportunities within targeted industries and geographic regions.
  • Partner with Account Managers to create and execute growth strategies for assigned territories and markets.
  • Conduct prospecting activities including cold calls, customer visits, industry networking, and follow-up campaigns.
  • Support sales teams with technical expertise during customer meetings, presentations, and product evaluations.
  • Perform bench, pilot, and full-scale testing of water treatment chemical products.
  • Attend and support full-scale product trials and demonstrations.
  • Develop technical proposals, presentations, and business cases supporting sales opportunities.
  • Generate and maintain a pipeline of qualified prospects and growth opportunities.
  • Support distributors through product training, field evaluations, and technical sales assistance.
  • Attend industry trade shows and networking events and present/teach classes.
  • Prepare reports related to sales activities, market intelligence, and growth opportunities.
