Product Associate

The Product Associate serves two major roles contributing to the success of the Science family of journals. First, this position helps execute on business operations related to our gold open access journal Science Advances. Second, this role contributes to market research, analysis, and support for the Science family of journals and related products. The Product Associate reports to the Director of Product Management and collaborates with colleagues across AAAS as well as with external vendors.

What You’ll Do

1. Contribute to administration of the Science Advances article processing charge (APC) system and related communication with authors and vendors.
2. Analyze manuscript, payment, and operational data to support budgeting, forecasting, and quarterly performance reporting.
3. Contribute to planning and support for the Science family of journals and related products.
4. Develop expertise in strategy, technology, journal disciplines, and industry trends.
5. Conduct market research and analysis to identify insights and opportunities.
6. Support cross-functional collaboration with Editorial, Marketing, and other internal teams.
7. Engage with departmental priorities and initiatives, including participation in planning meetings, special projects, and other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
• 3-5 years of relevant experience, preferably in a business, technology, marketing or sales role.
• General understanding of academic publishing business models and technologies.
• Some project management experience.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver on deadline.
• Proficiency with standard Microsoft Office programs, especially Excel.
• Experience or interest in working with Tableau or Power BI considered a plus.

The anticipated initial rate of compensation for this position is $75,000 - $85,000 per year. AAAS currently provides the following benefits for this position: paid vacation leave, paid sick leave, paid holidays, health insurance, flexible spending account, dental insurance, life insurance, vision insurance, retirement benefits, short- and long-term disability, each subject to the terms of the applicable program. Additional benefits may apply.
