Job Description

Product Designer (Temporary)

Working arrangement: Hybrid
Duration: Approximately 6 months
Hours: 32 to 40 hours per week

About the role

We are looking for an experienced Product Designer to temporarily support an international software company for approximately six months. Candidates must be based in the Netherlands.

In this role, you will help ensure that complex software products solve meaningful customer problems while delivering intuitive, efficient and engaging user experiences.

You will combine customer research, product discovery, UX design and UI design to shape products from initial concept through delivery and continuous improvement. Working closely with Product Managers, customers and Engineers, you will translate customer needs and business objectives into coherent product experiences and measurable outcomes.

You will contribute to product vision, strategy and priorities. Through customer interviews, contextual inquiry, workflow analysis, usability testing and product data, you will identify unmet needs, validate assumptions and provide evidence to inform product decisions.

You will also create and validate user journeys, information architectures, interaction models, prototypes, design systems and visual interfaces. You will champion customer-centred thinking and help establish consistent research, discovery and design practices across the organisation.

What you will do

You will help shape complex enterprise software products from early discovery through to production. Working closely with customers, Product Management and Engineering, you will understand real-world needs, translate insights into effective product experiences and ensure that designs are practical to implement.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Planning and conducting customer research, synthesising insights into actionable product opportunities.
  • Leading and contributing to product discovery and design activities, using interviews, usability testing, prototypes and other methods to explore opportunities and validate ideas.
  • Translating research findings into user flows, information architectures, wireframes, interfaces and interactive prototypes.
  • Refining designs continuously based on evidence, user feedback and product data.
  • Collaborating with Product Managers to shape product vision, strategy, roadmaps and priorities.
  • Facilitating workshops and discovery sessions, helping teams define meaningful user outcomes and measures of success.
  • Maintaining and evolving the design system, interaction patterns and visual language to ensure consistency, accessibility and usability.
  • Working closely with Engineering to provide clear design guidance and ensure the final implementation reflects the intended experience.
  • Promoting evidence-based, customer-centred design and sharing knowledge across the organisation.

What you bring

You are an experienced Product Designer who enjoys solving complex problems. You combine strong design skills with curiosity about customers, products and technology, and are comfortable moving between research, discovery, strategy and hands-on design.

Experience and education

  • At least five years of experience in Product Design, UX Design or a similar role.
  • Experience designing complex enterprise software or SaaS products is highly desirable.
  • A degree in Product Design, Interaction Design, UX, Human-Computer Interaction, Psychology or a related discipline is beneficial, although equivalent practical experience is equally valued.

Research and product discovery

  • Experience translating customer needs and research findings into meaningful product opportunities.
  • Confidence planning and conducting research, facilitating workshops, developing prototypes and testing concepts with users.
  • The ability to translate insights into intuitive experiences and connect design decisions to product strategy and business outcomes.

Design and technical skills

  • Strong hands-on skills in interaction design, visual design, information architecture and prototyping.
  • Experience creating and maintaining design systems and reusable components.
  • High proficiency in Figma and familiarity with modern product design and research tools.
  • An understanding of front-end development, responsive design and component-based frameworks such as Material UI is an advantage.

Collaboration and communication

  • Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to explain design decisions clearly and bring stakeholders together around a shared understanding.
  • Experience collaborating with Product, Engineering, customers and stakeholders in an agile, international environment.
  • A pragmatic, curious and proactive approach, with the confidence to take ownership while recognising the value of collaboration and feedback.
  • In particular, you will be able to combine customer insight with strong design craft, work strategically while remaining hands-on, advocate for evidence-based design and influence product decisions through clear communication and thoughtful collaboration.

What is offered

You will join an international software organisation where your work can have a meaningful impact on the product and its customers.

The opportunity offers:

  • An initial assignment of approximately six months.
  • A meaningful role with direct business impact.
  • An international and collaborative working environment.
  • Hybrid working, with approximately 40% remote work and three days per week in the office.
  • A choice between an employment contract and a freelance arrangement, depending on the candidate's preferences and the requirements of the assignment.
  • A working week of 32 to 40 hours.

Location and eligibility

Candidates must already be based in the Netherlands. Visa sponsorship and relocation support are not available for this assignment.

Additional requirement

A Certificate of Conduct (VOG) is required for this role.
