Product Owner, KYC | Malta (Ideally) | Remote
Location: Malta (remote-friendly within the EU)
Salary: €65,000 - €70,000 per annum
Working Pattern: remote
Contract: B2B,Full-Time, Permanent
Reports To: Head of Product (working closely with the Product Manager, KYC)
Closing Date: Tuesday 3rd November
About the Role
Our client, a well-established business in the regulated iGaming sector, is hiring a Product Owner, KYC to take day-to-day ownership of delivery for its player onboarding and identity verification product across regulated European markets.
This is a hands-on, delivery-focused role for someone who turns complex KYC and anti-money laundering requirements into clear, buildable work, and who keeps an engineering squad moving and shipping.
As Product Owner, KYC you will own and prioritise the backlog for Know Your Customer, translate regulatory and product requirements into detailed user stories and acceptance criteria, and work closely with engineering and QA to deliver verification journeys that are compliant, reliable, and smooth for players.
You will be the voice of compliance and risk inside the squad, making sure every feature that ships meets EU KYC obligations without adding needless friction. The role is based in Malta with remote flexibility across the EU.
Success in this Product Owner, KYC role looks like a well-groomed, well-prioritised backlog, predictable and high-quality delivery, and verification features that pass compliance review first time and perform well in production. You will work hand in glove with the Product Manager, KYC, who owns the longer-term vision and roadmap, while you own getting it built and released.
Key Responsibilities
Own, refine, and prioritise the KYC and player verification product backlog, making sure the squad is always working on the highest-value, most time-sensitive work across the business's European markets.
Translate KYC, AML, and compliance requirements into clear, well-written user stories and acceptance criteria that engineering can build against with confidence, covering document and biometric verification, screening, risk rules, and reverification flows.
Lead sprint planning, backlog refinement, and prioritisation in partnership with the Product Manager, KYC, and keep the backlog aligned to the wider roadmap and to current regulatory requirements.
Act as the voice of compliance and risk within the squad, making the trade-offs explicit and ensuring customer due diligence, enhanced due diligence, PEP and sanctions screening, and ongoing monitoring are correctly reflected in what is built.
Work day to day with engineering and QA through the delivery cycle, answering questions, clarifying scope, reviewing work in progress, and keeping momentum so features ship on time and to standard.
Support the integration and ongoing tuning of third-party verification and screening providers at the delivery level, and help validate that they perform correctly across markets and player segments.
Own user acceptance testing and release readiness, track delivery and release outcomes such as verification pass rates and defect rates, and feed what you learn back into the backlog and the roadmap.
What We're Looking For
We are looking for a delivery-focused Product Owner who is as comfortable with EU KYC detail as they are with an engineering backlog.
Essential
- Proven Product Owner experience in an agile or Scrum environment, delivering KYC, identity verification, onboarding, or compliance features, ideally within regulated iGaming, payments, fintech, or a comparably regulated digital sector.
- Solid working knowledge of EU KYC and AML requirements, including customer due diligence (CDD), enhanced due diligence (EDD), PEP and sanctions screening, and the EU anti-money laundering framework (notably 5AMLD and 6AMLD and the incoming EU AML Package).
- Strong skills in writing clear, detailed user stories and acceptance criteria that engineering teams can build against.
- Demonstrable experience owning and prioritising a product backlog, and running refinement and sprint planning.
- A track record of working day to day with engineering and QA to deliver and release features reliably.
- Confidence working with compliance and risk stakeholders and representing their requirements inside a delivery team.
- Excellent written and verbal communication in English.
Advantageous
- Familiarity with eIDAS 2.0 and the EU Digital Identity Wallet (EUDI).
- Experience with third-party verification, screening, or KYC orchestration provider integrations.
- Exposure to MGA-regulated and other multi-jurisdiction EU markets.
- Understanding of responsible gaming, affordability, and age verification requirements.
- Experience with biometric verification, liveness, and anti-spoofing.
- Working knowledge of GDPR as it applies to identity and personal data.
- A recognised Product Owner or Agile certification, such as CSPO or PSPO.
What's on Offer

The position is based in Malta on a hybrid basis, with genuine remote flexibility across the EU and support for flexible working hours, which makes it workable for candidates balancing other commitments.
You will own delivery for a product area that is central to a regulated business, working with an experienced engineering squad and a supportive compliance function, and partnering directly with the Product Manager, KYC. For a Product Owner who enjoys shipping meaningful work at the meeting point of EU regulation, financial crime prevention, and player experience, in Malta's established iGaming hub, this is an excellent opportunity.
