Remarkable people, trusted by clients to design and advance the world.

Wood is seeking expressions of interest for a Project Control Manager to join our Malaysia team as we partner with a major player in the Oil & Gas industry on the FEED phase of one of the Middle East's most significant offshore redevelopment and asset life extension projects, encompassing both greenfield developments and brownfield modifications. This opportunity is available to Malaysian citizens and permanent residents on a 12-month fixed-term contract commencing in December 2026.

Designing the future. Transforming the World.

Wood has a deep history of pioneering technical expertise globally for more than 160 years, from the North Sea to the offshore fields of the Malay Basin, Sabah and Sarawak, and the world-class energy hubs of Kerteh and Pengerang, and is now embarking on an exciting new chapter. Building on decades of engineering excellence from Malaysia, Wood invites you to help shape the future of the energy industry across Asia Pacific and beyond.

Join us in the heart of Kuala Lumpur, one of Southeast Asia's leading business and energy centres, where global connectivity, cultural diversity and project excellence come together. Supporting industry-leading clients across the oil & gas, petrochemical, refining, chemicals and energy sectors, you will contribute to some of the world's most significant projects while enjoying the benefits of a modern, vibrant, and highly liveable city. From its iconic skyline and thriving international business community to its affordability, accessibility, and strategic position at the centre of Asia Pacific, Kuala Lumpur offers the perfect blend of career opportunity and lifestyle.

At Wood Malaysia, you will thrive in a collegiate and collaborative team culture, partnering with like-minded professionals to solve complex challenges, deliver project certainty, and create new possibilities for our clients and communities.

What we can offer

  • Meaningful and complex projects delivered to leaders of industry across traditional, renewable, and emerging energy sectors
  • Competitive salary with regular reviews to ensure we are rewarding at the right level in line with the market
  • Global connections: join experts around the world who are at the leading edge of our industry, shaping the standards of our profession
  • Flexible working arrangements balancing client, team, and individual needs
  • Commitment to continuous professional development, with development plans tailored to your individual needs and aspirations
  • Commitment to Diversity and Inclusion; across our business with employee networks committed to giving all employees a voice
  • Commitment to your wellbeing through access to our Employee Assistance Programme (EAP)

Reporting to the Project Services Manager, you will step up and into a dedicated project team. You will thrive on the challenge of balancing project controls, team, client, and project leadership by:

  • Leading the development, implementation, and management of integrated project controls systems including planning, scheduling, progress measurement, forecasting, cost control, change management, and reporting
  • Establishing project control strategies, procedures, and performance metrics to ensure alignment with project objectives, client requirements, and Wood governance standards
  • Representing the project controls function in project reviews, risk workshops, management meetings, and client engagements, providing clear insight into project performance, opportunities, and risks

Your dual focus on relationships and delivery will be essential. Anticipating client needs beyond the immediate scope, you will drive excellence in planning, cost management, and performance reporting while enabling the ongoing growth and development of your team. You will also work in close partnership with engineering, procurement, construction, and client stakeholders to support robust project decision-making and maximise value across the project lifecycle.

You will bring to life Wood's three pillar strategy of Inspired Culture, Delivery Excellence and Profitable Growth on the project. Leading by example, you will consistently display and enforce Wood values and behaviours, and commitment to the highest standards of safe and ethical behaviour, to ensure successful project delivery and client satisfaction.

At Wood you will join an inclusive and diverse global community of inquisitive minds and recognised industry innovators, partnering to create new possibilities.

You must hold (or be eligible to obtain) legal working rights in Malaysia as either a Malaysian Citizen or Permanent Resident.

Suitably qualified in Engineering, Project Management, Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, Finance, or a related discipline from a recognised institution, ideally you will have proven experience working in a similar Project Control Manager role within the Oil & Gas, Energy, Petrochemical, or Process industries.

In addition, you will:

  • Be recognised as an expert in project controls with extensive knowledge of planning, scheduling, cost engineering, estimating, change management, risk management, and project performance measurement, with experience delivering within a challenging and complex multi-discipline environment.
  • Be a leader of people with several years of supervisory experience, capable of fostering a collaborative and performance-driven culture while energising diverse teams to adopt best practice and achieve project objectives with safety at the heart of everything we do.
  • Have a professional level of knowledge of project governance frameworks, project controls methodologies, and contractual/commercial principles, with the ability to apply industry best practices throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Be commercially astute with a "solutions mindset", skilled in identifying, managing, and communicating project risks and opportunities while balancing technical, schedule, and commercial outcomes.
  • Be an articulate communicator (both written and verbal) with strong reporting, stakeholder engagement, presentation, and influencing skills, capable of communicating complex project performance information clearly and effectively.
  • Have excellent knowledge of project control systems and software including Primavera P6, Microsoft Project, Power BI, SAP, EcoSys, and advanced Microsoft Office applications.
  • Have a passion for energy security and energy transition, with the vision to support successful project delivery across traditional and emerging energy sectors while helping clients achieve sustainable and efficient outcomes.
  • Be customer-focused with an ability to develop trusted relationships with internal and external stakeholders, while balancing operational excellence to contribute to the competitive advantage of #teamwood.

What will set you apart will be your previous experience leading project controls on major offshore greenfield and brownfield Oil & Gas projects. Exposure to projects in the Middle East is advantageous but not essential.

It takes a diverse and inclusive community of inquisitive minds to unlock tomorrow's solutions to the world's most critical challenges.
