We are seeking a delivery-focused Project Manager with a strong construction background to join our growing teams in London and the North East. If you have at least three years’ experience managing construction projects, we would like to hear from you.
About the Role:
As a Project Manager, you will take ownership of construction projects across the full delivery lifecycle and all stages of the RIBA Plan of Work. Reporting to the Director of Project Management, you will coordinate design, procurement and site activities; manage programme, cost, quality and risk; and act as the key link between clients, consultants, contractors and internal teams. The role requires practical construction knowledge, strong commercial awareness and the ability to deliver projects safely and in line with scope, budget and programme.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan and manage construction projects through all stages of the RIBA Plan of Work, from mobilisation and pre-construction through to commissioning and handover.
- Develop and maintain project programmes, milestones, resource plans and delivery strategies.
- Coordinate architects, engineers, consultants, contractors, subcontractors, suppliers and site teams.
- Manage procurement activities, tender packages, contractor appointments and material lead times.
- Monitor budgets, forecasts, variations and project costs, working closely with commercial colleagues.
- Identify, assess and manage project risks, issues, dependencies and change control.
- Promote and monitor compliance with health and safety requirements, site procedures and relevant legislation.
- Oversee quality assurance, inspections, defects management and completion documentation.
- Chair progress meetings and provide clear reports on programme, cost, risk, quality and safety.
- Build effective relationships with clients and stakeholders, resolving issues and managing expectations.
- Ensure works comply with drawings, specifications, Building Regulations, contracts and project requirements.
Requirements:
- At least three years’ demonstrable experience managing construction projects across fit-out, refurbishment and/or new-build schemes, through the full project lifecycle.
- Strong knowledge of construction methods, sequencing, site logistics and project controls.
- Experience managing programmes, budgets, risks, change and multiple delivery partners.
- A relevant qualification in Construction Management, Project Management, Building, Civil Engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent industry experience.
- Working knowledge of the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations, the Building Safety Act and other relevant UK health, safety and environmental legislation.
- Ability to read and coordinate drawings, specifications and technical information.
- Strong leadership, communication, negotiation and stakeholder management skills.
- Commercial awareness, sound judgement and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
- Excellent organisation and attention to detail, with the ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines.
- Competence in Microsoft Office and project planning software such as Microsoft Project, Asta Powerproject or Primavera P6.
- Experience working under JCT and/or NEC forms of contract.
The following would be advantageous but are not essential:
- A valid CSCS card.
- Professional membership of, or progress towards membership of, the APM, CIOB, RICS or another relevant industry body.
- A full UK driving licence (essential for the North East office).
Company Benefits:
- Competitive salary
- 25 days’ annual holiday plus bank holidays
- Death in service insurance
- Hybrid working: three days in the office, with the balance from home or on site
- Summer and Christmas team-building days
- Cycle to Work scheme
- Annual appraisals and pay reviews
- London: central office close to Chancery Lane station
- North East: free on-site parking
