Show job description

At Qu you’ll find a fun, dynamic, and diverse culture that celebrates team and individual success. Our people are down to earth, trail blazin’ folks who value innovation.

While mostly virtual, we collaborate closely to produce leading-edge software solutions much needed in the restaurant industry.

Our technology team is a rapidly growing group of talented and experienced engineers building the leading enterprise software company focused on restaurant technology. We use modern technologies, automation, and AI-assisted engineering practices to build products that power restaurant operations at scale.

We are looking for a hands-on QA Engineer who is strong in both manual and automated testing, across backend APIs and frontend UIs. You'll test end-to-end flows that cross several Qu products, such as an order that starts in POS or web ordering and ends on the kitchen display. You'll make sure every case is tested at the right level, from API checks to end-to-end and manual tests.

You'll work inside QuDLC, Qu's AI-first delivery lifecycle. AI agents refine each story, propose its test cases, and write the tests before the code; people decide at review gates, on evidence. As the team's quality engineer, you own two of those gates: you approve the test cases before development starts, and you sign off the story when the test results are in.

What You'll Do Here

  • Review the test cases AI agents propose from each story's acceptance criteria: tighten vague steps, add missing negative and edge cases, and approve them in AIO Tests.
  • Review each story's test plan before development starts: the right test level for every case (unit, API, end-to-end or manual), and which existing tests to reuse, update or retire.
  • Review, debug and fix the backend API and frontend UI tests that agents write in TypeScript and Playwright. Keep the shared fixtures, page objects and API clients healthy, and the smoke suite focused on critical paths.
  • Run exploratory testing and the cases that stay manual, then sign off each story using the pipeline's results: smoke tests, the story's own tests and the AIO Tests run.
  • Test end-to-end flows across services, such as POS, web ordering, the in-store server and the kitchen display, including scheduled and multi-channel orders.
  • Investigate failing, flaky and blocked tests: read the pipeline's diagnosis, separate environment, test data and product issues, and fix the test plan or cases when they are the cause.
  • Give feedback that improves how the AI agents write test cases and tests.
  • Answer testing questions during story refinement, and partner with developers and product managers on release validation.

Experience We're Looking For

  • 4+ years in QA or Quality Engineering, with hands-on experience in both manual testing and test automation.
  • Strong test design and exploratory testing: turning acceptance criteria into clear test cases, finding edge and negative cases, and writing defect reports with precise repro steps.
  • Knowledge of test levels (unit, integration, API, end-to-end) and when to use each.
  • Hands-on UI and API automation with Playwright, Cypress or Selenium, including the Page Object Model, REST APIs and JSON payloads.
  • Programming skills in TypeScript or JavaScript, or in another language such as Java or Python with readiness to work in TypeScript; strong enough to review and fix test code you didn't write.
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines (ideally Azure DevOps), Git and pull request reviews, and with debugging flaky tests and environment issues.
  • Hands-on experience reviewing AI-generated test cases, tests or code, and deciding on evidence whether to trust them.
  • Clear written and spoken English, and experience working in Agile/Scrum teams.

Bonus Experience

  • Experience with agentic development tools such as Kiro, or with AI-first delivery workflows where agents generate tests and code.
  • Experience with test-first development (TDD), where tests fail before the code exists and pass after.
  • Experience with restaurant technology, POS, kitchen display systems or online ordering.
  • Experience testing systems where on-premise components sync with cloud services.
  • Experience with test management and traceability tools such as AIO Tests or TestRail.
  • PowerShell or other scripting to set up Windows test environments.
  • Experience with code-quality tooling: ESLint, Prettier and pre-commit hooks.

Technology Environment

  • TypeScript / Node.js
  • Playwright (UI and API tests)
  • REST API testing
  • Azure DevOps (Repos and Pipelines)
  • Git
  • Jira
  • AIO Tests (test case management)
  • ESLint, Prettier and pre-commit hooks
  • PowerShell (Windows test setup)
  • QuDLC (Qu's AI-first delivery lifecycle): Kiro agents in Azure Pipelines, human review gates, and an AI pull request reviewer

The Type of Team Player We Need

  • Proactive mindset with a high degree of ownership and accountability.
  • Passion for quality, automation, and continuous improvement.
  • Strong analytical thinker and creative problem-solver.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with evolving priorities.
  • Curious about AI-assisted software development, and careful to verify what AI produces.
  • Team-oriented professional who enjoys partnering across Engineering, Product, and QA disciplines.
