Quality Engineer

Overview

At Lupa, we're hiring a Quality Engineer (Mid-Level) for a fast-growing technology organization that's modernizing its platform and building the next generation of its products. This is an automation-first role for someone who wants to build quality systems, not just execute test scripts.

You'll join a modern Quality Engineering team at a pivotal moment: core product workflows are being consolidated, new features are shipping quickly, and automated testing is becoming a primary signal of quality across the engineering organization. If you love writing reliable automation, hunting down flaky tests, and moving quality earlier into the development lifecycle, this is a role where your work will have immediate, visible impact.

You'll work remotely from anywhere in Mexico, partnering with senior QEs, software engineers, and product teams — with a clear runway to grow into owning larger pieces of the automation strategy.

What You'll Do

Automated Testing

• Build and maintain Playwright automated test suites covering core product workflows across API, integration, and end-to-end testing.

• Expand automated coverage as new features and workflows are introduced.

• Maintain reliable, scalable test suites rather than relying on one-off scripts.

Framework Contribution

• Extend and reuse shared QE automation frameworks, utilities, fixtures, and test patterns.

• Contribute improvements that make automated testing easier and more reliable for other QEs and developers.

• Follow established automation standards while helping identify ways to improve them.

Test Design

• Translate acceptance criteria and product requirements into clear, well-structured automated test cases.

• Partner with developers early to identify testability requirements.

• Think beyond the happy path to identify meaningful edge cases and regression risks.

CI/CD & Test Reliability

• Integrate and maintain automated tests within CI/CD pipelines using tools such as GitHub Actions and Azure DevOps.

• Investigate, triage, and resolve flaky tests to keep automation trustworthy and actionable.

Quality & Exploratory Testing

• Treat automated coverage as a primary quality signal and proactively communicate coverage gaps and regression risks.

• Perform targeted exploratory testing for new features and scenarios not yet covered by automation.

• Turn recurring manual testing needs into automation opportunities.

Defect Management

• Log, triage, and track defects using Azure DevOps or similar tools.

• Collaborate with software engineers to investigate issues and understand root causes.

• Clearly document reproduction steps, expected behavior, and observed results.

Collaboration & Growth

• Partner with developers, senior QEs, and product teams to move quality earlier in the lifecycle.

• Progressively take ownership of larger automation initiatives.

• Help build a culture where quality is shared across engineering, not owned exclusively by QA.

Who You Are

Must-Haves

• 2–5 years of experience in QA, QE, SDET, or a similar role, with hands-on experience building automated tests using Playwright or a comparable modern framework.

• Solid understanding of the testing pyramid — from unit and API testing through integration and end-to-end testing.

• Experience writing and executing API tests using tools such as Postman, working with REST APIs.

• Working knowledge of SQL for data validation and defect investigation.

• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and integrating automated tests into development workflows.

• Comfortable working with Git and collaborative development workflows.

• Understanding of test design principles, acceptance criteria, regression testing, and the defect lifecycle.

• Good written and verbal English, with the ability to collaborate directly with technical stakeholders.

• A curious, collaborative mindset and genuine hunger to deepen your automation skills and take on ownership.

Nice-to-Haves

• Experience with event-driven or cloud-based applications.

• Experience testing APIs, distributed systems, or complex integrations.

• Familiarity with Azure DevOps or similar platforms.

• Experience with Oracle SQL Developer or SSMS.

• Experience working in an Agile environment.

• Experience using AI-assisted development or testing tools.

• Experience contributing to shared test frameworks or automation libraries.
