Overview

At Lupa, we're hiring a Senior Quality Engineer (Automation & Enablement) to take ownership of automation within a technically demanding integrations environment inside a fast-growing technology organization.

This is not a manual-testing role. You'll architect and own Playwright automation frameworks, build the tooling that empowers developers and fellow QEs to create and extend automated tests, and lead the transition from validated test cases to durable, scalable automated coverage.

It's an exciting moment to join: the team is consolidating multiple product lines, modernizing its platform, and building real-time integration and payment capabilities. You'll get the creative freedom and ownership of a startup, backed by the stability of a profitable, growing company. If you love architecting frameworks, championing quality earlier in the lifecycle, and influencing how engineering teams build quality in — this role is built for you.

What You'll Do

Automation & Framework Ownership

  • Architect and own Playwright automation frameworks for critical application and integration workflows — not just individual test scripts.

  • Drive automated coverage across the full testing pyramid (unit, contract/API, integration, and E2E) in partnership with engineering.

  • Build reusable tooling, fixtures, utilities, and data patterns that make it easier for developers and QEs to write and extend automated tests.

  • Establish consistent automation practices and framework standards across engineering and QA teams.

  • Own the automation lifecycle from design through implementation and maintenance.

Developer Enablement

  • Mentor and pair with developers and QEs on automation best practices, framework usage, and test design.

  • Champion shift-left practices that move quality earlier in the development lifecycle.

  • Help establish a culture where engineers take greater ownership of testing and quality.

Integration & API Validation

  • Validate workflows and data exchanges between applications, internal systems, and external platforms.

  • Use tools such as Postman for API validation and SQL for backend data validation and defect investigation.

  • Analyze XML and JSON payloads to identify field-level discrepancies, mapping issues, and data inconsistencies.

  • Perform targeted manual or exploratory testing where automated coverage doesn't yet exist — always with an eye toward future automation.

Test Planning & Reporting

  • Structure test cases in TestRail (or equivalent) with automation-readiness in mind.

  • Track automated coverage, regression risk, and defect trends.

  • Use test results and defect patterns to continuously improve automation, tooling, and engineering practices.

Who You Are

Must-Haves

  • 6+ years in QA, QE, SDET, or software quality engineering roles, with significant ownership of automation frameworks.

  • Strong hands-on experience with Playwright and the ability to architect and evolve frameworks — not just write scripts.

  • Strong API testing experience using Postman (constructing requests, validating responses, testing multi-step workflows).

  • Ability to write and execute SQL queries for data validation and defect investigation.

  • Experience testing integrations between enterprise applications, middleware, APIs, databases, or external platforms.

  • Comfortable working with XML and JSON payloads, identifying field-level discrepancies and mapping issues.

  • Demonstrated experience enabling developers or QEs to build and maintain their own automated coverage.

  • Experience with TestRail or an equivalent test management platform.

  • Experience with Azure DevOps, Jira, or a similar defect-tracking tool.

  • Strong written and verbal English skills, with the ability to communicate technical findings to engineering and business stakeholders.

  • High agency and end-to-end ownership — you've seen a problem, designed the solution, built it, and can point to the results. You thrive when you're trusted to solve independently rather than take orders.

Nice-to-Haves

  • Experience in healthcare, insurance, financial services, or another regulated industry.

  • Familiarity with EDI-like integration patterns such as HL7, X12, or proprietary XML schemas.

  • Experience working with external vendors or partners in integration testing.

  • Experience with Oracle SQL Developer and/or SSMS.

  • Experience with legacy or highly coupled systems, gradually introducing modern automation.

  • Experience in a distributed engineering organization.

  • Experience with modern AI-assisted development or testing workflows (e.g., Claude Code).

What's In It For You

  • Full-time employment through Lupa's local entity, with statutory Mexican benefits.

  • Work setup: Remote within Mexico,

  • Schedule: Standard full-time hours in Mexico.

  • Growth: Own the automation strategy for a complex integration environment, build frameworks that scale across teams, and help drive a modern QE culture in a growing engineering org.

  • Impact & stability: Startup-level creative ownership with the security of a profitable, expanding company making strategic acquisitions.
