Salary:£40,000-£60,000 + Car Allowance / Company Vehicle

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Quantity Surveyor to join a leading main contractor delivering a major highways infrastructure project in Essex.

The successful candidate will take full commercial responsibility for an earthworks package, currently valued at approximately £12m, with the value expected to grow to £100m as the project progresses towards its main construction phase.

This is an excellent opportunity for a Quantity Surveyor with a civils, infrastructure or earthworks background who is looking to take ownership of a substantial package, develop their commercial experience and play an important role in the delivery of a long-term infrastructure project.

The Role
Working closely with the Managing Quantity Surveyor, you will be responsible for the commercial management of the earthworks package.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Taking full commercial responsibility for the earthworks package, managing costs, contractual obligations and commercial performance.
  • Managing subcontractor accounts, including valuations, payments, variations and final accounts.
  • Administering NEC contracts, including compensation events, change management and contractual compliance.
  • Monitoring costs, forecasting and producing accurate commercial reports.
  • Identifying commercial risks and opportunities, ensuring these are appropriately managed.
  • Managing the commercial relationship with the supply chain and ensuring contractual obligations are met.
  • Working closely with the wider project delivery and commercial teams.
  • Providing guidance and mentoring to a Graduate Quantity Surveyor / Assistant Quantity Surveyor, with the opportunity to develop into a formal line management position.

About You
My client is looking for a Quantity Surveyor with approximately 3-5 years' experience, ideally gained within a civil engineering, infrastructure or earthworks environment. This experience can come from either a main contracting or subcontracting role.

You will ideally have:

  • A good understanding of NEC contracts, including contract administration and change management.
  • Experience managing subcontractor accounts, valuations and variations.
  • The ability to take ownership of a commercial package and work with a good degree of autonomy.
  • Strong commercial awareness, communication and organisational skills.
  • The confidence to challenge and manage subcontractor commercial performance.

What's on Offer?

  • Salary of £40,000-£60,000, depending on experience.
  • £4,000 car allowance or company vehicle.
  • 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays.
  • Company pension scheme.
  • Private healthcare.
  • Hybrid working - typically three days in the office and two days working from home.
  • Long-term project security and career development opportunities.

The project office is based in Grays, Essex, making this particularly suitable for candidates based in Essex, Kent and North/East London.

If you're a Quantity Surveyor with a civil engineering background and are looking for an opportunity to take ownership of a substantial package on a major infrastructure project, I'd be interested in hearing from you.
