1 R&D Team Leader – Power Consulting R&D

2 The Opportunity

We are seeking a customer-focused and technically driven R&D Team Leader to lead the development of innovative consulting solutions, methodologies, digital tools, and technical capabilities within the power systems and energy consulting domain. In this role, you will drive Power Consulting R&D initiatives that transform customer challenges, grid modernization requirements, sustainability objectives, and industry expertise into scalable and value-driven solutions.

You will lead a highly skilled team of power system engineers, consultants, and technical specialists, develop team capabilities, and ensure the successful execution of R&D activities aligned with business priorities. Working in a global and collaborative environment, you will partner closely with consulting, service, product, engineering, and business teams to drive innovation, technical excellence, and customer value.

This is a leadership role that combines people management, power systems expertise, consulting innovation, and R&D execution in a dynamic and rapidly evolving energy industry.

3 How You'll Make an Impact

• Lead and manage Power Consulting R&D activities, ensuring alignment with business strategy, market trends, customer requirements, and organizational objectives.
• Lead, mentor, and develop a team of engineers and consultants, fostering innovation, collaboration, accountability, and high-performance delivery.
• Drive the development and continuous improvement of consulting methodologies, analytical frameworks, software tools, digital solutions, and engineering practices.
• Own team development, competency growth, resource planning, and talent retention.
• Manage operational activities for the team and ensure high-quality technical deliverables and timely execution.
• Collaborate with global consulting, service, product, engineering, and business stakeholders to develop innovative and scalable consulting solutions.
• Engage with customers, utilities, industries, and transmission system operators to understand challenges and develop value-driven solutions.
• Lead R&D initiatives supporting grid modernization, energy transition, renewable integration, power quality, grid stability, and asset performance improvement.
• Ensure traceability between requirements, assumptions, analyses, simulations, and delivered outcomes through structured R&D processes.
• Proactively manage risks, dependencies, priorities, and changes to ensure successful delivery of projects and strategic initiatives.
• Drive continuous improvement of consulting methodologies, simulation techniques, work processes, and engineering practices to enhance efficiency and quality.
• Promote collaboration across global teams and support knowledge sharing and best-practice adoption.
• Ensure compliance with internal procedures, quality standards, cybersecurity requirements, and applicable industry regulations.
• Contribute to defining and driving an inspiring team vision aligned with organizational strategy and business growth objectives.
• Foster a culture built on safety, integrity, sustainability, innovation, customer focus, and continuous learning.

4 Your Background

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems Engineering, Energy Systems, or a related discipline.
• 8+ years of experience in power systems engineering, consulting, R&D, utility operations, grid studies, or technical leadership roles.
• Proven experience leading technical teams and managing engineering or R&D activities in a global environment.
• Strong understanding of power systems analysis, grid integration, utilities, transmission and distribution systems, renewable energy integration, and power network operations.
• Experience in HVDC, FACTS, power quality, grid code compliance, protection studies, dynamic simulations, or energy transition projects is highly desirable.
• Experience delivering consulting, engineering, technology development, or customer-facing projects throughout the project lifecycle.
• Strong understanding of R&D processes, engineering methodologies, and continuous improvement practices.
• Experience leading cross-functional and geographically distributed teams.
• Familiarity with industry standards, regulatory frameworks, grid codes, and compliance requirements.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills with a structured and data-driven approach.
• Excellent stakeholder management, communication, and collaboration skills.
• Demonstrated leadership, ownership, and people-development mindset with the ability to inspire and motivate teams.
• Experience with Agile, hybrid delivery methodologies, and engineering project governance practices.
• Proficiency in simulation and engineering tools such as PSCAD, PSS®E, DIgSILENT PowerFactory, ETAP, MATLAB/Simulink, Azure DevOps, Microsoft Office, SAP, and related collaboration platforms.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
