Employment Type:

Job Profile:

Research Cyberinfrastructure Facilitator II

Job Summary:

The Regulated Research Facilitator serves as a critical bridge between UW–Madison researchers and the UW–Madison Regulated Research Enclave. In this role, they will support researchers throughout the onboarding process, helping to evaluate research requirements, communicate enclave expectations, and guide research teams toward appropriate technical and compliance solutions.

The facilitator will work closely with researchers to understand and document research workflows, data types, instrumentation, and operational needs. They will translate these requirements into actionable technical, security, and compliance considerations for Regulated Research engineers supporting both Azure-based services and the integration of on-premises research instrumentation and assets with the Regulated Research Enclave. Success in this role requires an understanding of research environments as well as the controls, documentation, and evidence requirements associated with regulated research.

This position enables cutting-edge research by coordinating efforts among diverse stakeholders, including the Regulated Research team, the Division of Information Technology (DoIT), campus cybersecurity and compliance experts, and researchers across a wide range of disciplines. The facilitator will help align research objectives with technical and regulatory requirements, ensuring researchers can effectively leverage enclave services while meeting applicable compliance obligations.

Applicants for this position will be considered for Research Cyberinfrastructure Facilitator II and Research Cyberinfrastructure Facilitator III titles. The title is determined by the experience and qualifications of the finalist.

The candidate selected for this position may perform a combination of on-site and remote work subject to an approved flexible work arrangement (FWA), which is reviewed and approved annually. Remote work requires successful candidates to possess their own high-speed internet and phone to perform the work on a university provided computer. Per University policy, transportation between home and assigned work location is not payable/reimbursable and will be at the expense of the employee. This position is expected to be primarily remote but will require some onsite presence for in-person meetings at least once per month and design workshops as needed.

The Division of Information Technology (DoIT) is an exciting and dynamic work environment grounded in organizational principles that include family and personal life/work balance; an inclusive, respectful, and supportive work environment; professional development opportunities; innovation; and alignment with the campus's teaching, learning, and research missions. DoIT provides core IT infrastructure services to the university, develops and implements services for the university and in some cases, for the Universities of Wisconsin, plays a major role in managing the state-wide higher education network and regional networks.

  • Communicates and collaborates with internal collaborators and/or potential external collaborators around facilitation and relevant service models
  • Connects and coordinates interactions between researchers and technology providers. Provides regular communications to and/or collaborates with the systems and software/data professionals regarding service enhancements
  • May provide consultation and expertise for aspects of research proposals specific to research CI. May serve as a project contributor for a research proposal or Co-Principal Investigator on proposals around facilitation functions
  • Contributes to the design and content development of documentation, training content, and/or advanced curricula, and instructs at workshops
