Remote | Autodesk Fusion 360 Specialist — $40–$100/hour
24-MAGWe are sharing a specialised consulting opportunity for experienced Autodesk Fusion 360 Specialists with strong expertise in parametric CAD modelling, mechanical assemblies, GD&T, design for manufacturability, reverse engineering, and CAD automation to contribute to an advanced AI training and engineering-data project.
Selected professionals will develop, edit, audit, and document robust parametric 3D models based on detailed technical requirements, applying real-world manufacturing knowledge and professional CAD standards. Although the role targets Autodesk Fusion 360 expertise, the project itself will focus on FreeCAD, making transferable parametric-modelling experience especially relevant. No prior experience in AI is required.
Key Responsibilities
Parametric CAD Modelling
- Develop fully parametric 3D models of mechanical parts and assemblies
- Build models from detailed written briefs and technical requirements
- Apply robust sketching, geometric constraints, dimensions, and feature-tree structures
- Ensure models remain editable, stable, and adaptable as requirements evolve
- Maintain strong design intent throughout complex modelling workflows
CAD Editing & Model Maintenance
- Edit and update existing parametric CAD models
- Incorporate changing specifications while preserving model integrity
- Diagnose fragile constraints, broken references, or unstable features
- Refine geometry to improve robustness and downstream manufacturability
- Maintain organised and understandable modelling structures
GD&T, DFM & Manufacturing Review
- Apply GD&T principles consistent with ASME Y14.5 or equivalent standards
- Evaluate dimensional accuracy, tolerance application, and design intent
- Apply Design for Manufacturability principles to mechanical designs
- Consider manufacturing processes such as injection moulding, sheet metal fabrication, CNC machining, and casting or forging
- Identify geometry or tolerance decisions that may create manufacturing difficulties
CAD Auditing & Quality Assurance
- Audit models for dimensional correctness, feature consistency, and specification compliance
- Identify gaps, deviations, or inconsistencies between requirements and final geometry
- Review assemblies as well as individual components
- Evaluate whether models reflect intended mechanical relationships and constraints
- Provide structured feedback and recommendations for correction
Reverse Engineering & CAD Automation
- Support reverse-engineering workflows such as scan-to-CAD and point-cloud conversion
- Translate existing geometry or physical references into structured parametric models
- Use automation or scripting to improve repeatability and efficiency
- Apply tools such as Python, iLogic, NX Open, VBA, or comparable automation technologies where relevant
- Help standardise repetitive modelling and validation workflows
Design Documentation & Technical Communication
- Document modelling decisions, assumptions, and design rationale clearly
- Explain technical choices in both written and verbal formats
- Provide structured feedback supporting continuous project improvement
- Communicate manufacturing and design considerations to multidisciplinary contributors
- Maintain high standards of clarity, accuracy, and attention to detail
Ideal Profile
- Extensive hands-on experience with parametric CAD platforms
- Strong proficiency with Autodesk Fusion 360
- Experience with SolidWorks, Inventor, FreeCAD, or comparable parametric CAD tools is highly relevant
- Prior FreeCAD experience is ideal, as the project itself will focus on FreeCAD
- Proven application of GD&T principles in real-world engineering work
- Strong Design for Manufacturability expertise across at least 2–3 manufacturing processes
- Experience with injection moulding, sheet metal, CNC machining, casting, forging, or comparable production methods
- At least 4+ years of applied CAD experience is preferred for model-editing work
- Approximately 10+ years of relevant experience may be appropriate for complex model-creation assignments
- Strong assembly-level modelling experience rather than exclusively single-part work
- Experience with reverse engineering, scan-to-CAD, or point-cloud conversion is highly valued
- Familiarity with CAD automation or scripting using Python, iLogic, NX Open, VBA, or comparable tools is advantageous
- Strong problem-solving skills and meticulous attention to detail
- Excellent written and verbal technical communication
- No prior AI-training or model-evaluation experience is required
