Remote | Criminal Defense Attorney (BigLaw Firms) — $140–$400/hour
24-MAGWe are sharing a specialised consulting opportunity for experienced Criminal Defense Attorneys with substantial BigLaw or major law firm experience and strong expertise in criminal law, trial advocacy, legal writing, case analysis, and professional ethics to contribute to an advanced legal AI training and evaluation project.
Selected professionals will analyse complex criminal-law scenarios, draft and review litigation materials, evaluate trial strategies and procedural issues, and develop realistic simulations reflecting sophisticated criminal-defense practice. The work requires strong litigation judgement, precise legal reasoning, and the ability to translate real-world criminal-defense expertise into structured materials for AI evaluation. No prior experience in AI is required.
Key Responsibilities
Criminal Law Analysis
- Analyse complex criminal-law scenarios and fact patterns
- Identify relevant legal issues, arguments, and procedural considerations
- Develop structured frameworks for evaluating potential legal strategies
- Apply sound criminal-law judgement to sophisticated case scenarios
- Distinguish material issues from secondary or peripheral considerations
Litigation & Trial Strategy
- Develop and evaluate trial strategies for complex criminal matters
- Analyse courtroom procedures and litigation tactics
- Assess evidentiary, procedural, and strategic considerations
- Provide expert commentary on trial advocacy techniques
- Apply practical litigation judgement to realistic criminal-defense scenarios
Legal Drafting & Review
- Draft, review, and refine pleadings, motions, and other legal materials
- Evaluate legal arguments for clarity, accuracy, and persuasiveness
- Identify weaknesses in written advocacy or legal reasoning
- Improve legal documents while preserving intended strategy and meaning
- Apply professional litigation-writing standards consistently
Case Analysis & Procedural Review
- Review case materials to identify key factual and legal issues
- Analyse procedural posture and potential litigation risks
- Evaluate alternative arguments and strategic options
- Identify relevant procedural safeguards and defense considerations
- Develop clear reasoning supporting case-strategy decisions
Professional Ethics & Legal Judgement
- Evaluate ethical dimensions of criminal-defense practice
- Apply professional-responsibility principles to realistic legal scenarios
- Identify issues requiring heightened professional judgement
- Develop best-practice guidance for ethical decision-making
- Maintain strong standards of professional discretion and legal integrity
Simulation & AI Evaluation
- Create high-fidelity simulation exercises reflecting real-world criminal-defense practice
- Review AI-generated legal analyses and strategy recommendations
- Identify legal errors, weak reasoning, or unrealistic litigation approaches
- Provide structured expert feedback supporting model improvement
- Help ensure AI training materials reflect professional legal standards
Ideal Profile
- Extensive experience practising criminal defense
- BigLaw or comparable major law firm experience is highly valuable
- Proven litigation and trial-advocacy experience in complex criminal matters
- Exceptional legal-writing, analytical, and reasoning skills
- Strong ability to assess case strategy and procedural issues
- Deep understanding of ethical standards and best practices in criminal defense
- Experience reviewing, preparing, or teaching litigation strategy is highly valuable
- Familiarity with procedural safeguards and courtroom practice
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Exceptional attention to detail and professional judgement
- Familiarity with technology-assisted legal research or digital case-management tools is advantageous
- Experience contributing to legal education, professional development, or innovation initiatives is beneficial
- No prior AI-training or model-evaluation experience is required
