We are sharing a specialised consulting opportunity for experienced Criminal Lawyers with substantial BigLaw or major law firm experience and strong expertise in criminal law, legal research, court filings, legal writing, case analysis, and complex legal reasoning to contribute to an advanced legal AI training and evaluation project.

Selected professionals will analyse criminal-law materials, review and edit complex legal documents, summarise legal arguments and procedural issues, and provide expert feedback on AI-generated legal content. The work requires strong professional judgement, precise written communication, and the ability to distil sophisticated legal concepts into clear and useful analysis. No prior experience in AI is required.

Key Responsibilities

Criminal Law Analysis

  • Analyse criminal statutes, case law, and court filings
  • Identify legally relevant facts, arguments, and procedural issues
  • Evaluate legal reasoning for accuracy and completeness
  • Apply sound professional judgement to complex criminal-law scenarios
  • Distinguish material legal issues from secondary considerations

Legal Document Review & Editing

  • Review complex legal documents for accuracy, clarity, and consistency
  • Edit legal writing to improve structure and precision
  • Identify unsupported assertions, ambiguities, or analytical weaknesses
  • Evaluate compliance with established legal standards
  • Maintain strong quality standards across court-related and analytical materials

Case Law & Court Filing Review

  • Review court filings, judicial opinions, and case materials
  • Analyse legal arguments and procedural posture
  • Extract relevant holdings, reasoning, and factual context
  • Identify important distinctions across cases
  • Support accurate synthesis of large volumes of legal information

Legal Writing & Summarisation

  • Summarise legal arguments, decisions, and procedural issues
  • Distil complex criminal-law concepts into concise and accessible language
  • Draft clear analytical explanations and supporting commentary
  • Adapt legal content for different audiences and use cases
  • Maintain precision while simplifying sophisticated legal reasoning

AI Legal Evaluation & Feedback

  • Review AI-generated criminal-law content for accuracy and applicability
  • Identify weak reasoning, omitted issues, or incorrect legal conclusions
  • Provide actionable feedback to improve model performance
  • Evaluate whether legal outputs reflect real-world professional standards
  • Support iterative improvement of legal training materials and evaluation criteria

Legal Research & Ongoing Developments

  • Conduct research across criminal statutes and case law
  • Stay current with relevant developments in criminal law
  • Incorporate updated legal authorities into project work where appropriate
  • Evaluate the relevance of new cases or statutory changes
  • Apply current legal understanding to project assignments

Remote Collaboration & Digital Workflows

  • Collaborate remotely with cross-functional project teams
  • Use digital platforms to review, communicate, and deliver project work
  • Communicate complex legal issues clearly to legal and non-legal stakeholders
  • Adapt efficiently to evolving project workflows and tools
  • Contribute to consistent quality across distributed review processes

Ideal Profile

  • JD or LLM degree from an accredited law school
  • Active bar membership
  • Substantial experience practising criminal law
  • BigLaw or comparable major law firm experience is highly valuable
  • Strong legal research, legal analysis, and writing skills
  • Experience reviewing court filings and complex case materials
  • Proven ability to synthesise large volumes of legal information
  • Exceptional attention to detail
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to explain nuanced legal concepts clearly
  • Sound ethical judgement and professional discretion
  • Comfortable working independently and collaboratively in remote environments
  • Familiarity with legal technology or digital legal workflows is advantageous
  • Interest in law-and-technology applications is beneficial
  • No prior AI-training or model-evaluation experience is required

Engagement Details

  • Independent contractor engagement
  • Fully remote
  • Compensation: $140–$400/hour
  • Work will involve criminal-law analysis, court-filing review, case-law research, legal writing, summarisation, editing, and AI-output evaluation
  • Strong criminal-law judgement and legal-document analysis are central to this engagement
  • Assignments may involve statutes, judicial decisions, court filings, legal memoranda, procedural issues, and complex criminal-law scenarios
  • Project scope, workload, legal topics, and evaluation standards may evolve depending on project requirements
  • Work must be completed without using confidential or privileged information belonging to any employer, client, law firm, institution, or other third party
