We are sharing a specialised consulting opportunity for experienced Mechanical Design and CAD professionals with strong expertise in parametric modelling, GD&T, tolerance stack-up, design for manufacturability and assembly, production drawings, and engineering release workflows to contribute to an advanced AI training and mechanical-design evaluation project.

Selected professionals will solve and review complex mechanical-design problems, assess AI-generated engineering responses, analyse production-ready designs, and provide rigorous technical feedback across part and assembly design, dimensional tolerancing, manufacturing constraints, and drawing release. The work requires strong hands-on production-design experience, precise engineering judgement, and clear written communication. No prior experience in AI is required.

Key Responsibilities

Mechanical Design & CAD Problem Solving

  • Solve advanced mechanical-design and CAD problems
  • Analyse part and assembly design challenges
  • Evaluate geometry, interfaces, fits, and functional requirements
  • Apply practical production-design judgement to realistic engineering scenarios
  • Develop technically sound solutions that reflect manufacturing constraints

Parametric CAD Modelling

  • Review and assess parametric CAD models
  • Evaluate design intent and modelling strategy
  • Identify fragile, inefficient, or poorly constrained feature structures
  • Recommend improvements to model robustness and maintainability
  • Apply professional CAD practices across complex parts and assemblies

GD&T & ASME Y14.5

  • Apply GD&T principles in accordance with ASME Y14.5
  • Review datum strategies, feature control frames, and tolerance schemes
  • Assess whether geometric controls match functional design intent
  • Identify over-constrained, under-defined, or impractical tolerancing
  • Provide clear explanations of dimensional and geometric requirements

Tolerance Stack-Up Analysis

  • Perform and review tolerance stack-up analyses
  • Evaluate worst-case and statistical tolerance effects where appropriate
  • Identify critical dimensional chains
  • Assess whether tolerances support functional and manufacturing requirements
  • Recommend practical adjustments balancing performance and producibility

Design for Manufacturability & Assembly

  • Evaluate designs for manufacturability and assembly
  • Identify issues related to machining, sheet metal, injection moulding, casting, or comparable processes
  • Review geometry for tooling, access, draft, fixturing, and assembly constraints
  • Recommend changes that improve manufacturability without compromising function
  • Apply realistic production considerations to design decisions

Drawing Release & Change Control

  • Review engineering drawings for release readiness
  • Assess dimensional completeness, notes, tolerances, and manufacturing information
  • Support concept-to-detail drawing development
  • Evaluate ECR/ECN-related design changes
  • Apply professional standards to production-release documentation

AI Engineering Evaluation

  • Review AI-generated mechanical-design responses
  • Assess technical correctness, engineering quality, and practical applicability
  • Identify incorrect assumptions or incomplete reasoning
  • Provide structured feedback to improve model performance
  • Distinguish genuine engineering errors from acceptable alternative approaches

Technical Communication & Collaboration

  • Document engineering feedback clearly and precisely
  • Explain complex design concepts in professional written and verbal formats
  • Collaborate remotely with other subject-matter experts and project participants
  • Support consistency across evaluation tasks and technical review criteria
  • Contribute practical production-engineering context to AI training workflows

Ideal Profile

  • BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Industrial Design, or a related discipline
  • 5+ years of experience in production design or comparable mechanical-engineering roles
  • Proven experience personally owning designs through GD&T, tolerance analysis, DFM, and drawing release
  • Expert knowledge of parametric CAD modelling
  • Strong knowledge of GD&T per ASME Y14.5
  • Strong tolerance stack-up analysis skills
  • Demonstrated experience with design for manufacturability and assembly
  • Ability to take designs from concept through detailed drawings and production release
  • Familiarity with ASME B89 dimensional-metrology standards is advantageous
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing-process constraints
  • Experience with machining, sheet metal, injection moulding, casting, or related processes
  • Familiarity with SolidWorks, Creo, NX, CATIA, Inventor, or comparable CAD platforms
  • Experience with PLM/PDM systems is advantageous
  • CAM or CNC programming experience is beneficial
  • CSWP or CSWE certification is a plus
  • Professional English proficiency
  • Exceptional written and verbal technical communication skills
  • Evidence of rigorous engineering problem-authoring or technical-review experience is highly valued, including standards-committee work, competition leadership, examination item writing, textbook authorship, research recognition, or comparable achievements
  • No prior AI-training or model-evaluation experience is required

Engagement Details

  • Independent contractor engagement
  • Fully remote
  • Displayed compensation range: $60–$130/hour
  • Actual compensation structure is output-based, with payment made per task that meets project specifications
  • Task completion time may vary depending on individual experience and workflow
  • Minimum weekly submission requirements apply; the source does not specify the exact number of required tasks
  • Work will involve mechanical design, CAD modelling, GD&T, tolerance stack-up, DFM/DFA, production drawing review, and AI-generated engineering-content evaluation
  • Strong hands-on production-design experience is central to this engagement
  • Roles are typically filled within approximately 48 hours
  • Selected experts are expected to begin initial tasks within approximately 24–48 hours after onboarding
  • Project scope, workload, design problems, and evaluation standards may evolve depending on project requirements
  • Work must be completed without using confidential or proprietary information belonging to any employer, client, manufacturer, engineering organisation, institution, or other third party
