About Us
City of Ryde, just 12 kilometres from Sydney CBD, is a place of unique lifestyle and opportunity. It is home to an engaged and culturally diverse community of around 130,000 people, and a strong and growing Smart City economy including more than 13,000 local businesses, Macquarie Park, world-class hospitals, and a leading university. All balanced with beautiful bushland, riverfront parks, open spaces, and sport facilities.
Our council delivers a broad range of services, projects, programs, and events. We are actively committed to innovation, sustainability, resilience and providing exceptional customer experiences, and this relies on attracting and keeping great people. We offer a range of benefits, including flexible work arrangements, health and wellbeing programs, a learning and development program including study support, and a reward and recognition program.
About the role
We are seeking an experienced and proactive risk professional to play a key role in strengthening City of Ryde’s strategic risk management capability.
In this position, you will work across the organisation, partnering with managers and leaders to identify, assess and appropriately mitigate risks that may impact the achievement of Council’s objectives. Taking an enterprise-wide perspective, you will support the ongoing development and implementation of Council’s Risk Management Framework, helping to build a strong risk-aware culture and enhance organisational resilience.
The role offers a unique opportunity to influence strategic decision-making while leading several important risk initiatives. You will be responsible for implementing and maintaining Council’s risk register within a new enterprise software platform, developing a structured program for the regular review of operational risks and controls, and overseeing Council’s Fraud and Corruption Control Program.
This is an ideal opportunity for a risk professional looking to make a meaningful impact across a diverse organisation, with exposure to strategic, operational and compliance risk management.
About You
You are a collaborative and influential risk professional who enjoys working with stakeholders across all levels of an organisation. You understand that effective risk management is about enabling informed decision-making and achieving organisational objectives, not simply managing compliance requirements.
We welcome applications from candidates with risk management experience across a broad range of industries. Whether your background is in local government, corporate, financial services, health, utilities, infrastructure, education or another sector, you will bring transferable skills and a strategic approach to risk management.
To be successful, you will have tertiary qualifications in risk management, business, insurance or a related discipline, together with experience supporting enterprise risk frameworks and working with leaders to identify and manage risk. You will possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills, excellent communication abilities, and a sound understanding of relevant legislation, governance requirements and Australian standards. Experience in insurance, claims management, control assurance, fraud and corruption prevention, or governance-related functions will be highly regarded.
You will be passionate about continuous improvement, capable of building strong working relationships, and committed to helping the organisation effectively manage risk while delivering positive outcomes for the community.
Your commencing annual salary will range from $112,947.75 to $141,184.69 + Superannuation, dependent on your experience and qualifications.
