Position Description

EIP is seeking a highly motivated Energy Efficiency Account Manager to support commercial and industrial facilities in New York, with a primary focus on Retrocommissioning (RCx) energy efficiency projects. Based in Rochester, NY, this position will work directly with commercial and industrial customers and technical service providers to identify energy efficiency opportunities, support participation in RCx programs, and guide projects from initial engagement through implementation and completion.

The Energy Efficiency Account Manager will play a critical role in developing and maintaining relationships with customers, building owners, facility managers, and Technical Service Providers (TSPs). This position is responsible for managing customer accounts, communicating program offerings and requirements, coordinating with technical teams, and supporting the advancement of energy efficiency projects. A key focus will be helping customers understand the value of retrocommissioning, including opportunities to optimize existing building systems, improve operational performance, and achieve energy savings.

The Energy Efficiency Account Manager will collaborate closely with engineering, outreach, and program operations teams to coordinate technical assessments, communicate recommendations, address customer needs, and support successful project implementation. This role reports to the EIP Program Manager and serves as a primary point of contact between customers, TSPs, and the program delivery team.

Objectives of this Role

  • Account Management: Develop and maintain strong relationships with commercial and industrial customers, building owners, facility managers, operators, and TSPs to support participation in energy efficiency and RCx programs.
  • Retrocommissioning Support: Promote and facilitate RCx opportunities that improve the performance of existing building systems, reduce energy consumption, and support long-term operational efficiency.
  • Project Advancement: Manage customer opportunities throughout the program pipeline, coordinating follow-up activities, addressing participation barriers, and supporting projects through implementation and completion.
  • Program Education: Communicate RCx program offerings, eligibility requirements, available incentives, and the operational and financial benefits of energy efficiency improvements.
  • Technical Coordination: Collaborate with engineering teams and TSPs to support building assessments, communicate technical findings, and help customers understand recommended operational improvements.
  • Performance Tracking: Maintain accurate customer records, project documentation, and pipeline information to support program reporting, performance monitoring, and participation goals.
  • Team Collaboration: Work across engineering, outreach, and program operations teams to ensure consistent communication, coordinated service delivery, and a positive customer experience.

Daily and Monthly Responsibilities

  • Manage Customer Accounts: Serve as a primary point of contact for assigned commercial and industrial customers, maintaining relationships and providing ongoing support throughout their participation in RCx and energy efficiency programs.
  • Identify RCx Opportunities: Engage customers to identify potential retrocommissioning opportunities, including improvements to HVAC systems, building automation systems, controls, scheduling, and other operational processes that may reduce energy consumption.
  • Guide Customers Through the Program: Explain program requirements, eligibility criteria, available incentives, technical services, and participation processes to help customers make informed decisions about energy efficiency projects.
  • Coordinate with Engineering and Technical Teams: Work with engineers and TSPs to facilitate building assessments, review findings, communicate recommended efficiency measures, and support customer understanding of potential improvements.
  • Advance Project Opportunities: Maintain consistent communication with customers, follow up on identified energy-saving opportunities, address project barriers, and encourage the implementation of recommended RCx measures.
  • Support Project Coordination: Coordinate customer meetings, site visits, technical assessments, project follow-up, and other activities necessary to support timely and effective program delivery.
  • Track Customer and Project Activity: Maintain accurate records of customer communications, account activity, project milestones, implementation status, and anticipated energy savings using CRM and program tracking systems.
  • Support Outreach and Engagement: Participate in customer meetings, workshops, webinars, industry events, and other activities to increase awareness of RCx services and encourage program participation.
  • Gather Customer Feedback: Identify customer concerns, operational challenges, and barriers to participation, sharing feedback with internal teams to support continuous program improvement.
  • Collaborate Across Teams: Work closely with outreach staff, engineers, program managers, and administrative personnel to coordinate customer engagement, technical services, and project execution.
  • Monitor and Report Progress: Provide regular updates on account activity, customer participation, project pipeline development, implementation progress, and program performance to leadership.

Required Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in engineering, business, communications, environmental studies, energy, or a related field; or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Experience: At least 3 years of experience in account management, project coordination, customer relationship management, program delivery, sales, or a related customer-facing role, preferably within energy efficiency, utilities, building operations, or clean energy.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain energy efficiency programs, retrocommissioning concepts, and technical recommendations clearly to both technical and nontechnical audiences.
  • Relationship Management: Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain productive relationships with commercial and industrial customers, facility personnel, contractors, and other program stakeholders.
  • Project Coordination: Strong organizational and follow-through skills, with the ability to manage multiple customer accounts, track project milestones, and coordinate activities across internal and external teams.
  • Customer Service Orientation: Proven ability to provide responsive, professional, and solutions-oriented customer support while addressing participation barriers and project challenges.
  • Technology Skills: Proficiency with Microsoft Office and experience using CRM systems, spreadsheets, and project tracking tools to maintain accurate customer and program records.
  • Mission Alignment: A strong commitment to sustainability, energy efficiency, customer service, and supporting the successful implementation of energy-saving projects.

Preferred Qualifications
