Senior Accountant - Malta & UK (Finance)

Three entities. High volumes. A direct line to the CFO. We are looking for a hands-on Senior Accountant who wants to own the whole accounting cycle, from the first posting to the final report.

About the role

You will own accounting & reporting for our Malta and UK entities (three companies) end to end. You will be based in our Malta office and report directly to our CFO.

We are a finance team with a big operation: hundreds of thousands of transactions every month, and four entities closed together.

What you’ll do

Your core focus: owning the accounting cycle

• Own bookkeeping, journal entries and postings across our Malta and UK entities in Xero

• Lead the month-end and year-end close hands-on, including accruals, prepayments and complex adjustments

• Reconcile balance sheet, bank and intercompany accounts, and resolve discrepancies with internal teams

• Manage Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable, checking invoices, expenses and transactions yourself

Reporting

• Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual management accounts and consolidated financial reports for the CFO under IFRS and local GAAP

• Prepare statutory financial statements under Malta GAAP

• Analyse the numbers and turn them into clear insights for leadership

• Contribute to budgeting and forecasting

Tax, compliance and audit

• Prepare and submit VAT returns

• Own the corporate income tax process, working with our external tax adviser

• Ensure strict adherence to accounting standards, internal controls and regulatory requirements

• Be the main point of contact for auditors, keeping ownership in-house

• Keep records complete, well organised and audit-ready

Process improvement

• Identify potential improvements in our workflows to strengthen controls and efficiency as we grow

What you'll bring

Must-haves

• 6+ years of hands-on, in-house accounting in a complex, high-volume environment. You have personally owned the full accounting cycle

• Industry background: you have worked in a business with a large daily flow of transactions, such as fintech, tech, retail, manufacturing or import-export

• Accounting and reporting: you know accounting inside out, and you understand reporting and what the numbers mean for the business

• Technical knowledge: solid IFRS, strong VAT and statutory reporting

• Systems: Xero, Netvisor or similar, and comfort with manual cross-checking and reconciliations

• Fluent English

Also important

• Ownership and flexibility: you are happy to be "in the weeds" in an environment where structure is still being built

• Degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics or equivalent

Strongly preferred

• Multi-entity closing experience

• Exposure to FP&A or financial controlling

• Audit experience

• Fintech experience

• Maltese language
