Senior AI Engineer (Agentic Systems)

Job Description:

We are currently seeking an experienced Senior AI Engineer to design, build and run the AI systems behind Mission Control, Teams Squared's internal platform: the agents, the context they work from, and the cloud they run on. The ideal candidate has strong software engineering fundamentals, hands-on experience deploying production AI agents and LLM applications, and treats prompts as code. You will work directly with the leadership team, have a real say in the product, and be based in Sri Lanka in a hybrid arrangement.

Responsibilities:

• Turn business processes into working agentic systems by modelling the process, unifying the context it needs across data sources, and grounding the output in what actually happens
• Deploy and run agents in production on AWS and Claude Managed Agents, using OpenShell where privacy requires it
• Build and maintain the context layer: one view of the business across data sources and modelled processes
• Version prompts, write LLM evals and run regression checks before every change ships
• Tune each agent deployment for its use case, trading off memory, latency, speed and cost
• Design systems for new features end to end, from data and backend through agents to UI
• Explain system designs to leadership, including the architecture diagram, the trade-offs and the impact of a new feature across every system
• Recommend between approaches using numbers on cost, latency, accuracy and effort
• Build with AI coding tools: write clear specs, prototype quickly, and review code carefully, including code written by an agent
• Take agentic deployments from prototype to production and own their outcomes end to end

Qualifications:

• 5+ years of software engineering experience, including at least 1 year building and deploying production-grade AI agents (mandatory)
• Strong engineering fundamentals in data structures and algorithms, including graphs and graph theory, linked lists and hash maps (mandatory)
• Demonstrated experience deploying AI agents or LLM applications in the cloud; personal projects count if you can explain the architecture and trade-offs (mandatory)
• Daily, hands-on use of AI coding tools such as Claude Code and Codex; this will be tested in the hiring process (mandatory)
• Prompt engineering experience, including prompt versioning and running LLM evals (mandatory)
• Production experience on AWS and with Claude Managed Agents is strongly preferred
• Experience running agents in privacy-sensitive environments (e.g. OpenShell) is advantageous
• Experience in context and process engineering, and in optimising agent memory, latency and inference cost, is advantageous
• Experience in a 0-to-1 startup is advantageous
• Strong communicator who can explain a system and its trade-offs to leadership as clearly as to an engineer
• Comfortable with ambiguity, with a strong sense of ownership and the ability to create structure where there is none
• Must be based in Sri Lanka and able to work in a hybrid arrangement

You don't need experience in everything listed under preferred. We do expect you to get up to speed on any of them within a week or two of learning and trying.
