Join us and drive the energy revolution
We are looking for a passionate Senior Algorithm Development Expert (m/f/x) who wants to help build the most innovative energy trading platform on the planet.
Redefine automation in energy trading
As part of our Asset Optimization Community within Trading Technology, you will design, build and improve automated trading algorithms that optimize customers’ grid-scale batteries and other flexible renewable energy assets. You will turn complex quantitative, market and operational challenges into reliable, production-grade optimization solutions that create measurable value in live trading.
In this hands-on senior specialist role, you will take technical ownership of substantial algorithmic work, ensuring the quality and reliable operation of your algorithms through rigorous analysis, reproducible evaluations and well-tested production software. You will investigate unexpected behaviour, turn operational learnings into lasting improvements, and help make our solutions more reusable across assets and markets. Working closely with the wider team, you will contribute to sound technical decisions, share your expertise and help other engineers grow, without taking on line-management responsibilities.
Note: We can only consider candidates based in Austria, Belgium, Netherlands, Slovakia, Spain, and the UK (or open to relocation to one of these countries, provided the candidate holds the right to work).
As part of our team of experts, you will
Design, implement and improve asset-backed optimization and trading algorithms, accounting for market rules, physical asset constraints and agreed trading risk controls
Translate complex optimization problems into clear design choices and maintainable production code, challenging assumptions and proposing practical enhancements to existing strategies
Work closely with the Optimization Product Owner and Team Lead to clarify requirements, define expected outcomes and acceptance criteria, and evaluate technical options, estimates and trade-offs
Develop rigorous backtests, simulations and controlled experiments to evaluate algorithm performance across realistic scenarios, data limitations and edge cases
Analyse live trading behaviour, data quality and performance drivers to identify weaknesses and deliver evidence-based algorithm improvements
Build diagnostics, observability and safe operating behaviour into algorithms, collaborating with Trading Operations to investigate production issues and implement lasting solutions
Take ownership of technical quality through code reviews, automated testing, safe releases and maintainable, reusable designs across assets and markets
Use AI-assisted and agentic development tools to accelerate prototyping, coding, testing and analysis, applying sound technical judgement and appropriate engineering safeguards
Share knowledge and support colleagues through technical reviews, pairing and collaborative problem-solving, ensuring important design decisions and specialist expertise are documented
Contribute to prioritised discovery, pilots, backtesting and new-market enablement, working with Platform/Integration Engineering and other teams
How you fit into the team
You want to participate in the transition to clean energy actively and
Have experience developing algorithms in a compiled programming language such as Go, Rust, C++, Java, C# or similar
Bring substantial hands-on experience in designing, building and maintaining production algorithms, optimization software or comparable quantitative decision system
Have strong quantitative problem-solving and numerical reasoning skills, supported by a background in computer science, mathematics, physics, engineering or a related field
Know how to write clear, maintainable and well-tested code and collaborate with other engineers to deliver reliable production software
Have practical data analysis skills and experience using historical and production data to develop, validate and improve algorithms, with an understanding of data quality and model limitations
Are experienced with, or eager to adopt, agentic AI approaches that enhance software development while maintaining high engineering standards
Can reason about operational constraints, work effectively across disciplines and communicate complex technical decisions clearly in English.
Balance algorithmic sophistication with reliability, maintainability and practical delivery value
Take ownership of complex technical problems, communicate risks and uncertainty openly, and share your knowledge generously
It's a plus if you also have
Experience with battery energy storage system (BESS) revenue optimization, electricity trading, European power markets or other asset-backed trading and scheduling problems
Experience with mathematical optimization, forecasting, simulation, backtesting or time-series analysis
Experience with Python for data analysis, experimentation or supporting development activities
Experience building and operating algorithms in distributed, high-availability or 24/7 trading environments
