Senior Android System / AOSP Developer

We are looking for an experienced Senior Android System / AOSP Developer to work on Android platform development and system-level software engineering.

Location: Remote within the EU

Eligibility: EU citizenship is required.

In this role, you will contribute to the development and maintenance of the Android platform at a deep technical level. We are looking for a hands-on engineer with strong experience in AOSP development and Android system components. The role is particularly suited to someone who understands how Android works below the application layer.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain the Android Open Source Project (AOSP)
• Develop Android Framework components and system services
• Integrate, troubleshoot, and optimize Android platform components
• Perform system-level software development in Linux-based environments
• Integrate Android platform components with hardware-specific solutions
• Collaborate with other developers to investigate and resolve complex technical issues

Requirements

• EU citizenship (mandatory)
• Strong hands-on experience with AOSP and Android platform development
• Good knowledge of the Android Framework and system services
• Strong C/C++ skills, with experience in Java and/or Kotlin
• Understanding of Linux environments and system-level software development
• Experience troubleshooting and resolving technical issues at the Android platform level

Considered an Advantage

• Experience with Hardware Abstraction Layers (HAL), Board Support Packages (BSP), Linux kernel development, or device drivers
• Familiarity with AIDL/Binder IPC mechanisms
• Experience porting Android versions and bringing up Android on specific hardware
• Experience integrating and optimizing Android system components

About You

You are an experienced, hands-on system software engineer with a deep understanding of Android platform architecture. You can work independently on complex technical challenges and collaborate effectively with other developers to deliver robust solutions.

The key focus of this role is Android platform and AOSP development rather than Android application development.

Working arrangement: Candidates based in Finland or Romania may apply through the applicable local arrangement. Candidates based in other EU countries must operate as self-employed contractors with their own registered business
