Senior Backend Engineer

Position Overview We are looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to join our team. You will be a shaper of the design and architecture of the core platform and work closely with the founding team to deliver 10x value to our clients. What you'll do Design and own the core of our platform, from architecture to implementation Build a robust, secure, and resilient data ingestion layer capable of handling diverse and high-volume data sources Develop a performant scraping and parsing layer to reliably capture and structure data from the web and other external systems Deliver customer-facing APIs and developer-friendly documentation that enable a seamless self-service product experience Impact and shape the engineering culture, setting high standards for quality, ownership, and collaboration Continuously improve our software engineering practices and processes, driving better reliability, scalability, and developer productivity What you bring 5+ years of backend engineering experience, with a track record of owning systems end-to-end in production 3+ years of Python (or a similar language with the willingness to work primarily in Python) Strong fundamentals in distributed systems: asynchronous processing, queues and pub/sub, idempotency, retries, eventual consistency, and designing for failure Strong experience designing customer-facing REST APIs that are clean, versioned, and pleasant for developers to integrate against Strong relational database modelling skills (PostgreSQL or MySQL), including indexing, query performance, and schema evolution under load A product engineering mindset: you care about what you're building and why, talk to users, and ship the thing that actually solves the problem rather than the most technically interesting version of it Comfort working in a cloud environment (GCP, AWS, or Azure) and shipping reliably with modern CI/CD — without needing to be the team's dedicated platform engineer Excellent communication and collaboration skills in a fast-moving environment It would be a plus if you have: Experience writing web scrapers at scale (anti-bot, proxy rotation, headless browsers) Experience with low-level languages like Rust, Go, or C++ for performance-critical components Experience with stream processing or high-throughput pipelines (Kafka, Pub/Sub, Dataflow, Flink) Experience in regulated/security-sensitive domains (KYC/AML, fintech, fraud, compliance) Our Offer Tackle meaningful problems with real-world impact Competitive salary and equity package Join us onsite in our offices in Porto Flat hierarchy with direct access to the founders Top-of-the-line equipment Private health insurance, plus sick and compassionate leave as needed About us Condukt is the next-generation compliance platform for financial services, offering an agentic solution powered by real-time data for business identity.
