Overview
At Lupa, we're hiring a Senior Backend Engineer – Platform & Logistics to own the core engine powering a fast-growing, tech-enabled last-mile delivery startup operating across major US metropolitan areas. The business specializes in cold-chain logistics—moving thousands of temperature-sensitive packages every month by matching driver fleets with optimized delivery routes.
This is a high-ownership role at the intersection of backend engineering, mathematical route optimization, and practical AI/ML integration. You'll partner directly with the CTO during onboarding to absorb core business logic, then take full ownership of backend platform scaling and logistics architecture. If you thrive in a culture of complete domain ownership—real leverage over critical systems without micromanagement—this one is for you.
Location: LATAM Remote (Argentina preferred; Brazil & LATAM open)
Timezone: US overlap required (Eastern / Mountain Time)
Stack: Node.js, Express, PostgreSQL, Prisma, GCP
What You'll Do
Own the Driver Distribution Engine: Build and refine algorithmic dispatch systems that efficiently match thousands of monthly delivery routes to drivers.
Improve In-House Routing Systems: Maintain and enhance mathematical routing logic without relying on third-party black-box services.
Integrate Practical AI/ML: Apply agentic AI, RAG patterns, and smart automation where it directly improves driver dispatching, route efficiency, and pay-calculation reliability.
Design & Scale the Platform: Build clean, maintainable RESTful services and database architectures using Node.js, Express, PostgreSQL, and Prisma.
Engineer for Performance & Scale: Structure backend services to cleanly scale alongside high-volume route concurrency and active driver fleets.
Optimize Pragmatically: Focus on high-impact algorithmic improvements that measurably improve real-world fleet performance—not theoretical tweaking.
Support Cloud & Infrastructure (nice-to-have): Help manage and optimize the Google Cloud Platform (GCP) setup as needed.
Who You Are
Must-Haves
Senior backend engineering experience with Node.js, Express, relational databases (PostgreSQL), and ORMs (Prisma).
Hands-on experience that has expanded into practical AI/ML tools, agentic workflows, or algorithmic optimization.
Proven ability to build and scale backend services, handle complex logistics data, and manage domain logic independently.
Exceptional spoken and written English fluency (C1/C2) to collaborate directly with US leadership.
Autonomous, domain-driven mindset with pride in system clarity and clean architecture.
Ability to work with consistent overlap to US Eastern / Mountain time zones.
Nice-to-Haves
Experience managing or optimizing GCP environments.
Background in logistics, routing, dispatch, or other high-concurrency operational systems.
Experience with mathematical/route optimization problems.
What's In It For You
Real ownership: Direct leverage over the core systems that power the business—no micromanagement.
High-impact work: Your algorithmic improvements will measurably affect thousands of real-world deliveries each month.
Direct access to leadership: Partner with the CTO during onboarding and beyond.
Remote-first: Work from anywhere in LATAM with US-hours overlap.
Compensation: Competitive senior-level salary benchmarked for LATAM remote backend engineers.
Schedule: Full-time with US Eastern/Mountain overlap.
