Lateral stands for technology excellence.
We’re a profitable, award-winning design and technology company with over 20 years of experience launching bold ventures and transforming businesses. A globally distributed team of 200+ experts united by a shared purpose: the continuous pursuit of quality.
Our clients come to us for results, quality and craft - and stay because we keep raising the bar.
We do things differently
Senior Business Analyst (LATAM)
What You'll Do
We’re looking for someone genuinely exceptional: not broadly experienced, but specifically excellent in a way you can name and prove. In this role, you’ll serve as a strategic partner between business and technology, leading complex initiatives from concept through delivery. You will translate business needs into scalable technical solutions, analyze complex backend systems and data, and help drive decisions across critical enterprise applications and integrations.
In this role, you’ll serve as a senior technical analyst across key initiatives—analyzing business needs, mapping system behavior, and defining precise functional specifications that align business goals with technical execution. Excellent analysis requires both deep system knowledge and modern ways of working. That’s why we’re looking for BAs who already use AI to sharpen how they gather requirements, write documentation, and troubleshoot complex issues, and who are curious about where AI takes the craft next.
Specifically, you will:
Drive & Define Requirements: Analyze complex business needs and translate them into precise functional specifications, technical requirements, end-to-end workflows, data lineage maps, and interface specifications.
Evaluate Solutions & Trade-offs: Partner with business and engineering teams to evaluate solution options, weighing technical trade-offs around performance, risk, cost, and functionality.
Perform Hands-on Data & System Analysis: Get into the weeds of system behavior using advanced SQL, database logs, and tools like SSMS or Datadog. Inspect backend data directly to troubleshoot complex issues and pinpoint root causes.
Analyze Integrations & Downstream Impacts: Support complex system integrations across APIs, event-driven architectures, file-based interfaces, middleware, and ETL processes. Map data flows carefully to evaluate downstream effects across applications and reporting.
Facilitate Technical Alignment: Serve as a clear communication bridge between business stakeholders, developers, architects, and data teams to establish a shared understanding of requirements and data flows.
Support the SDLC & Issue Resolution: Partner closely with engineering throughout the software lifecycle to clarify requirements, investigate production issues, validate bug fixes, and ensure smooth release readiness.
Lead UAT & Data Validation: Facilitate User Acceptance Testing (UAT) by building rigorous test scenarios, verifying backend data outputs, confirming data integrity, and ensuring delivered features hit the mark.
Elevate Standards & Best Practices: Help refine requirements artifacts, process models, and documentation standards, while identifying recurring data or integration patterns to improve quality across projects.
What We're Looking For
Strong analytical skills are the starting point. What matters beyond that is judgment: knowing how to navigate complex systems, evaluating trade-offs, and translating technical complexities into actionable business decisions.
To thrive in this role, you'll need:
7+ years of progressive experience as a Business Analyst, Technical Business Analyst, or Systems Analyst supporting complex enterprise systems and integrations.
Advanced SQL proficiency with demonstrated experience querying complex relational databases using SSMS or comparable tools for data validation, root cause analysis, and system behavior verification.
Deep integration expertise, including hands-on experience analyzing APIs, data flows, backend processes, ETL, middleware, and enterprise applications.
Strong SDLC & Agile experience, with fluency in work management and documentation tools such as Jira, Confluence, SharePoint, and Visio.
A working relationship with AI that shows up in how you work, not just in the tools you've tried.
Clear, business-friendly communication, with a proven ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear language for both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Strong analytical thinking, attention to detail, and the ability to independently manage complex analysis efforts while collaborating cross-functionally.
Strong English communication, async collaboration skills, and a proactive approach to solving problems.
Flexibility for production support, including availability to work outside core business hours (nights/weekends) when needed for system testing, upgrades, and releases.
Bonus points for:
Experience within financial services, fintech, consumer lending, or another highly regulated industry.
Professional certifications such as CBAP, PMI-PBA, or Agile certifications.
Experience with monitoring and logging platforms such as Datadog.
A track record of establishing BA practices, templates, and standards across an organization.
Why You'll Love Working Here
Analysis shapes the solution design. You'll be in the conversation early, working alongside business and architecture teams to define solutions rather than just taking orders.
Real impact. You'll drive key business initiatives and enterprise systems that make a measurable difference.
Remote-first, office friendly. Work from wherever you're most productive. We prioritize async collaboration, respect your time zone across LATAM, and focus on outcomes over hours.
An outstanding team. Talented, kind, hard-working people who care about their craft and about each other. No egos. No politics.
Growth. You'll be supported in growing your craft, exploring new paths, and stepping into greater responsibility, at your own pace.
A culture of excellence. We care about doing the right thing for our clients, our team, and ourselves. No burnout. No crunch. Just high-quality work, delivered sustainably.
Variety and stability. We're profitable, independent, and over two decades strong. Yet every project brings a fresh challenge. You'll never be bored here.
This Role Might Not Be for You
We want to respect your time by being clear about what this role isn't. You should skip this opportunity if:
You prefer high-level business writing without technical depth. This role requires getting into backend data, SQL queries, system logs, data lineage, and integration structures.
You prefer well-defined structure. If you gravitate toward a clear hierarchy, strict top-down mandates, and rigid swim lanes, you may find our self-managed style challenging.
Distributed work isn't your thing. If you find async communication, self-documentation, and being proactive without a manager nearby difficult, our setup won't suit you.
Feedback doesn't excite you. We're obsessed with quality and believe in continuous improvement. That means feedback that's sometimes nitpicky. If refining work until it's excellent feels over the top, you'll find this frustrating.
Change makes you uncomfortable. We're scaling and maturing. Priorities shift. Processes evolve. If ambiguity is uncomfortable, this may feel bumpy.
However, if this sounds like fuel, we'd love to talk.
How to Apply and What to Expect in the Interview Process
Your work. Show us the work that reflects you at your best. We'll look at depth, the quality of your analytical thinking, and the logic behind your choices.
Lateral team fit. You'll speak with our Talent team about your career direction, your motivators, and our plans ahead.
Work trial. You'll tackle a take-home challenge or case study that mirrors what we actually do.
Business & Systems deep dive. A collaborative session with our business analysts, product leads, and technical architects.
Project fit. An interview focused on prioritization, collaboration across disciplines, and how you handle the messy middle.
