Senior CLoud Data Engineer

We are looking for a Senior Cloud Data Engineer to join a team responsible for business-critical data flows and reporting solutions. The area is going through a major transformation from legacy platforms to a modern, cloud-based data ecosystem on Google Cloud Platform (GCP).

The role combines hands-on engineering with technical design and architectural input. You will help modernise data pipelines, build scalable data products, and support the transition towards a more reliable, accessible, and easy-to-consume data platform.

About the role

As a Senior Cloud Data Engineer, you will work closely with architects, product owners, and business stakeholders to design and deliver data and integration solutions. You will contribute to the technical roadmap, support modernization initiatives, and ensure that new solutions follow agreed architecture patterns and engineering standards.

The team’s goal is to make data more trusted, available, and useful for reporting, decision-making, and future digital applications.

Key responsibilities

• Contribute to the technical roadmap for data, reporting, and integration solutions.
• Design, develop, implement, and maintain data solutions in a cloud-based environment.
• Build and modernise data pipelines, APIs, and data products.
• Support the migration from legacy systems to a modern GCP-based data architecture.
• Work with business-critical data flows used for client reporting.
• Collaborate with architects, product owners, and stakeholders to translate business needs into technical solutions.
• Ensure alignment with target architecture, technical standards, and reusable engineering patterns.
• Improve reliability, scalability, and maintainability of data solutions.
• Support DevOps practices, CI/CD, and Infrastructure as Code where relevant.

Requirements

• Several years of experience in software development and/or data engineering.
• Strong hands-on experience with GCP or similar cloud platforms.
• Very good knowledge of Python, SQL, and BigQuery.
• Experience building scalable data solutions using tools such as:
  • BigQuery
  • Dataform
  • Airflow
  • Pub/Sub
  • Docker
• Understanding of modern data architectures, including Data Warehouse and event-driven patterns.
• Experience with ETL/ELT processes and data modelling, e.g. dimensional modelling or Data Vault.
• Experience with DevOps practices, CI/CD, GitLab, and Infrastructure as Code, e.g. Terraform.
• Ability to combine hands-on development with technical design and solution ownership.
• Strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset.
• Ability to translate business requirements into practical, scalable technical solutions.

Nice to have

• Experience in reporting or client reporting environments.
• Experience modernising legacy data platforms.
• Knowledge of data governance, data quality, and platform observability.
• Experience working in large organisations or complex stakeholder environments.
