  • Assess commercial risks relating to property, liability, business interruption, engineering, and other applicable insurance products.
  • Determine appropriate coverage terms, policy limits, deductibles, exclusions, warranties, and underwriting conditions within delegated authority.
  • Develop underwriting recommendations and pricing assessments based on risk characteristics, exposure data, and applicable underwriting guidelines.
  • Review risk surveys, inspection reports, actuarial information, and supporting documentation when evaluating complex commercial accounts.
  • Identify material risk exposures, inconsistencies, adverse trends, and information gaps requiring clarification or additional assessment.
  • Conduct portfolio reviews to monitor profitability, loss ratios, premium adequacy, risk concentration, and overall underwriting performance.
  • Support renewal strategies by evaluating changes in insured operations, claims experience, exposure levels, and market conditions.
  • Collaborate with brokers, intermediaries, account managers, actuaries, claims specialists, and risk engineers to obtain relevant information and resolve underwriting questions.
  • Prepare clear underwriting assessments, pricing justifications, risk summaries, and recommendations for internal review or approval.
  • Refer risks that exceed delegated authority or involve unusual exposures to the appropriate underwriting management or specialist teams.
  • Monitor underwriting performance against business objectives, risk appetite, portfolio targets, and profitability expectations.
  • Maintain accurate digital records of underwriting decisions, supporting evidence, policy terms, referrals, and approval documentation.
  • Apply underwriting policies, internal controls, and regulatory requirements relevant to the applicable insurance products and jurisdictions.
  • Identify opportunities to improve underwriting workflows, documentation quality, risk assessment methods, and decision-making efficiency.
  • Contribute to the development and refinement of underwriting guidelines, risk appetite statements, pricing approaches, and portfolio management procedures.
  • Support internal and external audits by providing appropriate underwriting documentation and evidence of compliance.
  • Provide technical guidance to junior underwriting personnel and contribute to knowledge-sharing initiatives.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Insurance, Finance, Business Administration, Economics, Risk Management, or a related discipline.
  • Significant professional experience in commercial insurance underwriting, risk assessment, or a closely related insurance function.
  • Strong understanding of commercial insurance products, policy structures, coverage provisions, exclusions, deductibles, and underwriting principles.
  • Demonstrated experience evaluating commercial risk exposures and making evidence-based underwriting recommendations.
  • Ability to interpret financial statements, claims reports, risk surveys, exposure schedules, and other technical underwriting documentation.
  • Knowledge of underwriting pricing methodologies, portfolio profitability, loss ratios, and risk selection strategies.
  • Familiarity with commercial property, general liability, business interruption, engineering, or other relevant commercial insurance lines.
  • Understanding of insurance regulations, compliance obligations, delegated underwriting authority, and internal governance requirements.
  • Experience working with underwriting platforms, policy administration systems, claims databases, and digital document management tools.
  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills, with the ability to assess complex information and identify material risk factors.
  • Excellent decision-making, negotiation, and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for preparing technical assessments and engaging with brokers and internal stakeholders.
  • High attention to detail and a commitment to accurate documentation, consistent underwriting decisions, and confidentiality.
  • Ability to manage multiple submissions, renewal deadlines, and competing priorities in a fully remote environment.
  • Professional qualifications such as ACII, CPCU, or other recognized insurance and underwriting credentials are advantageous.
What We Offer
  • A 100% remote working arrangement, allowing you to work from home.
  • Competitive compensation based on experience, qualifications, and technical expertise.
  • Opportunities to contribute to commercial risk assessment, portfolio optimization, and underwriting strategy.
  • A collaborative environment that supports professional development and technical knowledge sharing.
