About the RoleWe are seeking an experienced Senior Rolling Stock Dynamics Specialist to provide advanced engineering analysis, technical evaluation, and performance optimization for railway vehicles and rolling stock systems. The successful candidate will focus on vehicle dynamics, ride quality, stability, wheel–rail interaction, suspension performance, and vibration analysis to support railway safety, reliability, passenger comfort, and operational efficiency.
This fully remote position emphasizes engineering simulations, computational analysis, technical documentation, design reviews, and performance assessments. The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in railway engineering, mechanical dynamics, and simulation tools, with the ability to collaborate remotely with rolling stock manufacturers, railway operators, infrastructure engineers, and multidisciplinary project teams.
Key Responsibilities- Perform advanced rolling stock dynamics analyses to evaluate vehicle stability, ride quality, curving performance, and operational behavior under different service conditions.
- Develop and review mathematical models and computer simulations of railway vehicles, including bogies, wheelsets, suspension systems, and vehicle–track interactions.
- Analyze wheel–rail contact mechanics, wheel and rail profiles, contact forces, and their influence on vehicle performance and safety.
- Evaluate primary and secondary suspension characteristics to optimize ride comfort, vibration isolation, stability, and vehicle handling.
- Conduct simulation-based assessments of derailment risk indicators, wheel unloading, lateral forces, and other relevant vehicle dynamics performance measures.
- Assess vehicle behavior under different track geometries, operating speeds, loading conditions, and environmental scenarios.
- Review and interpret simulation results, test datasets, and operational measurements to identify performance issues and recommend engineering improvements.
- Support the assessment of compliance with applicable railway standards, technical specifications, and vehicle acceptance requirements.
- Evaluate the dynamic performance of locomotives, passenger coaches, metro vehicles, high-speed trains, and freight rolling stock, as relevant to project requirements.
- Perform sensitivity analyses and engineering investigations to assess the effects of design parameters, suspension settings, vehicle mass distribution, and wheel–rail conditions.
- Collaborate with mechanical, structural, braking, bogie, track, and vehicle design engineers to resolve technical issues affecting rolling stock performance.
- Review engineering drawings, technical specifications, vehicle configuration documents, and design change proposals from a dynamics perspective.
- Support virtual validation, simulation-based verification, and technical reviews for new rolling stock designs and fleet modifications.
- Analyze vibration, noise, and ride comfort data to identify potential causes of excessive movement, instability, or passenger discomfort.
- Contribute to root-cause investigations involving abnormal vehicle behavior, wheel and rail wear, suspension performance, and dynamic interaction issues.
- Prepare detailed technical reports, simulation summaries, engineering recommendations, and risk assessments for project stakeholders.
- Maintain accurate records of simulation assumptions, model configurations, validation results, and engineering decisions.
- Monitor developments in railway vehicle dynamics, simulation methodologies, and applicable technical standards.
- Provide technical guidance to junior engineers and support the development of consistent modelling, analysis, and reporting practices.
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Railway Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Applied Mechanics, or a related engineering discipline.
- Significant professional experience in rolling stock engineering, railway vehicle dynamics, mechanical simulation, or a related technical field.
- Strong understanding of railway vehicle dynamics, including lateral and vertical motion, hunting stability, curving behavior, and ride comfort.
- Knowledge of wheel–rail contact mechanics, wheel and rail profiles, contact forces, and vehicle–track interaction principles.
- Experience analyzing bogies, wheelsets, primary and secondary suspension systems, dampers, and related mechanical components.
- Proficiency with multibody dynamics simulation software, such as SIMPACK, VAMPIRE, or equivalent railway vehicle dynamics tools.
- Familiarity with finite element analysis (FEA), vibration analysis, signal processing, and engineering data visualization tools.
- Understanding of railway vehicle performance requirements and relevant standards, such as EN 14363 and applicable parts of the EN 12299 series.
- Experience with simulation-based verification, model validation, technical design reviews, and engineering acceptance documentation.
- Ability to interpret test results, simulation outputs, and operational data to identify root causes and recommend technically justified solutions.
- Knowledge of railway safety engineering, risk assessment, and engineering change management principles.
- Strong mathematical, analytical, problem-solving, and technical report-writing skills.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with geographically distributed engineering teams.
- Relevant professional engineering registration, railway engineering certifications, or specialist training in vehicle dynamics is advantageous.
- Ability to manage multiple technical assignments independently and deliver high-quality engineering outputs in a fully remote environment.
- A 100% remote, work-from-home arrangement.
- A full-time senior-level opportunity in railway vehicle dynamics and rolling stock engineering.
- Opportunities to contribute to advanced simulation, vehicle performance optimization, and railway engineering projects.
- Professional development in multibody dynamics, wheel–rail interaction, vibration analysis, and railway safety standards.
- A collaborative remote working environment focused on technical excellence, engineering innovation, and continuous improvement.
Interested candidates should submit an updated CV highlighting their rolling stock engineering experience, vehicle dynamics simulation expertise, railway standards knowledge, and relevant technical qualifications.
