About the Project
Transport for London (TfL) has awarded Indra a long-term contract to operate, develop, enhance and expand ticketing and access control systems across London’s transport network through to 2034, with extension options to 2039.
This programme covers the maintenance, operation and evolution of a large-scale, complex ecosystem, including turnstiles, validators, ticket machines, sales terminals, back-office systems, payment gateways, IT infrastructure and cybersecurity that supports over 8.6 million daily journeys.
Therefore, Indra will become TfL’s strategic technology partner to guarantee the operation and evolution of the world’s largest and most sophisticated ticketing system. Following a transition period of approximately two years, Indra will serve as the sole provider across the network that includes more than 8,500 buses, nearly 400 Underground stations, around 300 rail stations (Overground, DLR, Elizabeth Line and suburban services), 4,000 Oyster Card outlets, seven customer service centres, and 24 river boat boarding points.
Drawing on over 30 years of experience in urban public transport solutions, Indra will manage and evolve all aspects of the system. The project also envisages, in partnership with TfL, the implementation of new technologies to develop the system, make it more efficient and automate key processes; in short, to jointly create the next generation of the ticketing system for London.
Role overview
As we continue to expand our operations in the UK, we are strengthening our team with a Senior Configuration Data Tester, who will provide senior-level assurance across the preparation, configuration, verification and controlled delivery of Base Data changes into test and production environments. The role is particularly important for Fares Revisions, service changes and other Base Data configuration releases where accuracy, traceability and disciplined testing are essential.
Key duties include:
- Own and coordinate the testing of Base Data changes across relevant test environments, systems and field devices.
- Review requirements, change requests and technical analysis to determine test scope, coverage, dependencies and acceptance evidence.
- Produce robust test strategies, test plans, specifications, scenarios and step-by-step scripts that demonstrate system and device functionality through realistic operational use cases.
- Configure and validate test environments in line with configuration management procedures, ensuring they accurately represent the intended production target.
- Execute approved test scenarios accurately and within agreed delivery windows, recording the result of each test step and maintaining complete supporting evidence.
- Lead defect identification, triage, retesting and closure, working with Base Data Analysts, Developers, operational teams, suppliers and customer stakeholders.
- Prepare and conduct customer or user witnessed testing professionally, including independent test witnessing where required.
- Provide clear records of testing, acceptance and handover, including metrics, test results, reports, maps, physical media and other delivery artefacts.
- Provide senior assurance that Base Data changes are suitable for deployment and that material defects, residual risks and exceptions are clearly documented and escalated.
- Support controlled deployment of Base Data and post-deployment verification in accordance with installation and change control procedures.
- Investigate live or test issues, identify root causes and support remedial or preventative actions.
- Define and improve repeatable testing processes, templates, quality controls and traceability across the end-to-end Base Data lifecycle.
- Mentor colleagues, review test work produced by other team members and promote consistent testing practices across the team.
- Build effective relationships with customer, supplier and internal stakeholders, providing concise progress, risk and readiness reporting to management.
- Attend client premises, project meetings, test facilities and installation locations when required.
