Founding member, Data & AI practice · Zure Denmark
Data is the lifeblood of business, and helping businesses turn it into value on Azure is what we do at Zure. We are now building a Data & AI practice in Denmark, and we are looking for a Senior Data & AI Engineer to help shape it from the ground up: the engagements we take on, the standards we hold, and the team we hire next.
There's a sentence we use at Zure that sounds like marketing until you've worked here for a month: we don't hire people for projects; we hire people for life. This role is the clearest example of that we can offer. You won't be filling a seat on a project. You'll be helping decide what the practice becomes.
What you'll be doing
Zure does one thing, Microsoft Azure, and we have done it for over 16 years across 120+ experts in Finland, Denmark, the UK, Belgium and the Netherlands. In Denmark you will be the senior hands on our data and AI engagements, and a founding voice in how we run them.
Deliver. Design and build data platforms and AI solutions for Danish clients on Azure: Microsoft Fabric, Databricks, lakehouse and medallion architectures, Azure AI Foundry and Azure OpenAI. You own the architecture, not just the pipelines.
Take the hard ones. A data platform held together with hope and scheduled jobs. An AI ambition with no data foundation under it. Those are the engagements we want, and you will lead them.
Shape the practice. Set the reference architectures, accelerators and engineering standards the Danish practice will be built on, and help us decide who we hire next.
Lean on the group. Work with the UK data team, platform architects in Helsinki and integration specialists in Antwerp. You are never alone with a problem.
Support the sell. Join discovery workshops and pre-sales conversations as the technical voice, and scope engagements you would want to deliver.
Learn out loud. Mentor colleagues, share what breaks and why, and keep community work (blogging, speaking, user groups, open source) as part of the job rather than an extra.
What you bring
5+ years of hands-on data engineering, with at least 3 of them on Azure, and real production systems you can talk about in detail
Depth in the Azure data stack: Microsoft Fabric and/or Azure Databricks, Azure Data Factory, Data Lake, Synapse or SQL, and the lakehouse patterns that tie them together
Strong Python and SQL, plus Spark where the data is big enough to need it
Working experience with AI on Azure: Azure AI Foundry, Azure OpenAI, RAG patterns, and the data engineering that makes them trustworthy
Engineering discipline as default: Git, CI/CD, infrastructure as code (Bicep or Terraform), testing, and data governance with Microsoft Purview
The judgement to tell a client the hard truth about their data foundation, and the craft to fix it
Comfort being the most senior data person in the room, and the humility to say "I don't know, let's find out"
Fluent English, our group language. Danish is a strong advantage with Danish clients
Nice to have
Microsoft certifications such as DP-600 or DP-700 (Fabric), AI-102 or DP-203. We are a Fabric Featured Partner and hold seven advanced Microsoft specialisations, so these matter more here than most places
A visible community profile: a blog, conference talks, a user group you run, open-source contributions, or an MVP award
Consulting experience, including scoping and estimating engagements and working directly with client stakeholders
Experience with Azure Landing Zones, CAF/WAF, or the security side of a data platform (Purview, Sentinel, Defender)
What you get
A seat at the table, not a utilisation target. In Denmark everyone still fits around one table, and your opinion on how we build the organisation is expected, not merely tolerated. The founder is the person interviewing you.
A five-country bench behind you. Shared struggle, individual impact: when you hit a wall at a client, the answer is usually one message away in a company chat that spans Finland, Denmark, the UK, Belgium and the Netherlands.
The boring things, done fairly. Transparent and fair compensation, and the opportunity, as for every Zurean in every country, to become a shareholder.
Flexibility that is real. Whether your life includes small kids, a conference schedule, or a fishing boat.
Learning as part of the job. Certification time and cost covered, guilds and mentoring across countries, and community work on company time.
Zafari. Once a year, every Zurean from every country gets on a plane for our annual gathering. The last one involved the midnight sun and the Finnish archipelago. Most colleagues name it as their favourite tradition.
Problems worth roaring at. The hard, unglamorous, business-critical data and AI problems where solving them actually moves the needle.
