Join the team as Twilio’s next Senior Director of Developer Relations.

About the job

We’re hiring a Sr Director of Developer Relations to lead the global team building the strategies and programs that inspire and equip developers to win with Twilio. You’ll lead a unique, world-class org of hybrid engineer-marketers as you evolve the GTM motion that Twilio pioneered. This is a high-visibility, high-agency role reporting into Marketing, while working lockstep with Product and Go-To-Market.

The DevRel team at Twilio exists to make heroes of developers in their own organizations. You'll ensure we do this by showing up where developers live, both online and offline, while being humble, authentic and acting as a servant leader in the community. You are strategic yet deeply plugged into the Dev ecosystem, turning community engagement, technical contributions, and developer awareness into a steady drumb

Responsibilities

In this role, you’ll:

  • Serve as a figurehead, influencer, and key speaker on the global DevRel circuit, setting a high standard for how Twilio engages with builders online and offline.
  • Define the long-term global narrative for developer marketing. Build consensus and influence at the executive level to ensure cross-functional alignment with Product, Marketing, and GTM teams.
  • Recruit, mentor, and cultivate a unique global organization of Developer Evangelists, Advocates, and community specialists. Foster a culture of technical excellence that blends engineering rigor with world-class marketing storytelling.
  • Guide and scale Twilio's global Startups Program, help the team shape the strategic frameworks, partnerships, and early-stage developer initiatives that establish Twilio as the foundational tech stack for the next generation of high-growth companies.
  • Oversee a comprehensive technical content program (covering video, newsletters, and YouTube) to showcase the “art of the possible” with Twilio. Partner closely with the PR team to fuel our creator and influencer engine, leveraging both internal advocates and external partners to amplify developer-first storytelling.
  • Evolve our community and forums strategy into a modern, high-engagement motion. Build robust User-Generated Content (UGC) and ambassador programs that turn developers into long-term advocates across modern developer surfaces.
  • Spearhead Twilio’s Builder event strategy, ensuring our team is on the ground at major developer gatherings & meetups by showing, not just telling. Build strategic relationships with adjacent ecosystem partners to unlock high-impact co-marketing and launch activations.
  • Act as the ultimate steward of the developer experience. Navigate and facilitate complex, sensitive public community situations with high empathy, tact, and professional media coordination, while synthesizing community signals to directly inform the product roadmap.

Qualifications

Twilio values diverse experiences from all kinds of industries, and we encourage everyone who meets the required qualifications to apply. If your career is just starting or hasn't followed a traditional path, don't let that stop you from considering Twilio. We are always looking for people who will bring something new to the table!

*Required:

  • 7+ years of leadership experience managing developer relations, technical evangelism, or community advocacy programs (and 10+ years total working in this technical field).
  • Proven track record of building, training, and scaling outstanding technical global teams to support local and global stakeholders.
  • Deep technical baseline with an understanding of software developer personas and workflows (e.g., former full-time developer or hands-on software development experience).
  • Strong data-driven execution skills with a demonstrated understanding of marketing motions and user growth metrics.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence and build trusted relationships with C-level executives, journalists, bloggers, and industry analysts.

Desired:

  • Experience leading a developer relations team that directly supports a bottom-up, Product-Led Growth (PLG) self-service GTM motion.
  • Firsthand experience contributing to or directing prominent open-source software communities or public engineering forums.
  • An established professional network spanning a diverse set of technical communities, platform ecosystems, and developer networks.
