Description

Unpacked for Educators is searching for a Senior Educator to run our teen programs, from school retreats to regional fellowships to Jewish camps. Working with the Senior Program Director, who sets program strategy, this person keeps Unpacked Scholars, our fellowships, and our camp programming on track. They serve as the day-to-day contact for partner schools and camps, coordinate our Education Associates, and spend real time in the room facilitating retreats and sessions. The teens in these programs return to their schools and communities ready to elevate the Jewish conversation, and this is the person who makes those experiences happen.

Unpacked for Educators is the education division of OpenDor Media, a leading global nonprofit media company. Through Unpacked Teens, we develop thoughtful young Jewish leaders, using retreats, fellowships, camps, and immersive experiences to help teens explore their identity, engage with Israel in meaningful ways, and build a national community.

Requirements

What this role owns:

  • Scholars and fellowships. Serve as the day-to-day contact for partner schools and sites. Keep Unpacked Scholars and our regional teen fellowships, in places like Bergen County,NJ, Houston, LA and through our USY partnership, running consistently and on schedule.
  • Camps Partnerships and programming. Lead our work with Jewish camps, from relationships with camp directors to site visits, staff training, and sessions that bring Unpacked content into informal, experiential settings.
  • Facilitation in the room. Facilitate retreats and fellowship sessions where teens explore Jewish identity and Israel with nuance and honesty, and build lasting relationships with teens.
  • Curriculum. Create and refine sessions, lesson plans and decks rooted in Project-Based Learning and experiential education, and review materials for quality before use.
  • Coordination and Mentoring the Education Associates. Coordinate Education Associates’ schedules and retreat prep, mentor them in facilitation and content, and support speaking engagements for Unpacked for Educators and ConnectED.

What we’re looking for

  • A program leader and a natural teacher. This role calls for someone who has taught in the classroom and can also take programs from plan to execution, with the logistics, partners, and deadlines that come with them.
  • Someone who comes alive in the room. We need a facilitator who loves leading a large group of teens and can help them explore hard questions honestly.
  • A relationship builder. This role depends on earning the trust of school administrators, camp directors, and teens, and on keeping those relationships strong between programs.
  • Calm across many moving parts. This role requires someone who stays organized and uses sound judgment when retreats, schedules, and deliverables all land in the same week.

What You Have:

  • 5+ years in Jewish and Israel education, including classroom teaching (ideally high school) and at least 2 years running or coordinating educational programs.
  • A bachelor's degree in education or Jewish studies.
  • Strong facilitation skills and comfort leading large groups of teens.
  • A track record of taking programs from plan to execution, including logistics, timelines, partner communication, and deliverables.
  • Deep Israel and Jewish content knowledge and the ability to design strong sessions and review the work of others.
  • Experience building working relationships with schools, camps, or community partners.
  • Organization and sound judgment with many priorities in motion.
  • Commitment to our core values, including being proudly Zionist and rooted in nuance and complexity.
  • Comfort with Google Workspace, Slack, Wrike, and Zoom, and day-to-day use of AI tools such as Claude.
  • Ability to travel up to 50% of the time, mostly national trips on weekdays, plus summer camp visits. Living in or near New York or New Jersey is a plus.

Bonus points for (Not required)

  • Experience in the Jewish camp field, as staff, educator, or partner.
  • Experience mentoring or supervising educators, staff, or counselors.
  • Familiarity with Project-Based Learning, Learning by Design, and experiential education.
  • Experience with grant reporting or program data.
  • Hebrew proficiency and familiarity with Israeli audiences.
