Senior Expansion Manager (Site Acquisition)
EV Fast Charging | Berlin, Leipzig or Munich (Remote)
Location: Hybrid, based in or around Berlin, Leipzig or Munich, with regular travel across your region
Reports to: Expansion Lead, Germany
Team: Regional expansion team, with responsibility for a mid-level colleague and working students over time
Overview
This business is a fast-growing, independent fast charging operator. It has scaled from 5 people to more than 500, now operates in 10 countries, and is working towards a network of over 1,000 fast charging stations by 2030.
Unlike most of the market, it is fully independent. It is not owned by an oil major, a car manufacturer or a complicated investor structure, and both founders are still active in the business. Stations are designed around the driver, with real investment in architecture and amenities at every site.
Germany has been named a priority market at board level. With around 70 stations live and more than 200 still to locate and build, the expansion team is splitting the country into regions so each one has its own senior lead on the ground. This hire will own site acquisition in one of those regions: Berlin, Leipzig or Munich.
What you’ll do
- Identify and secure prime locations for fast charging stations across your region, from desk-based scouting through to signed lease
- Build relationships with landowners, retail agencies, project developers, companies and municipalities
- Prepare and lead negotiations on lease, rental and purchase agreements
- Build a business case for every location and take it through internal sign-off
- Spend 2 to 3 days a week on the road meeting landlords and visiting sites
- Work closely with internal architecture, legal, construction and operations teams to move sites towards build
- Keep the pipeline and reporting sharp in Salesforce-based SiteTracker so the wider team always has a clear picture
- Support and develop a mid-level colleague in your region, and help shape how the regional team works as it grows
What we’re looking for
- 7 to 8 years of hands-on experience in site acquisition, expansion or development
- Backgrounds that translate well: retail or chain expansion, commercial real estate with a business development angle, construction project development, or land acquisition for solar and wind
- A track record of negotiating lease, rental or purchase agreements with landowners and commercial partners
- A practical eye for what makes a good site: visibility, access, traffic flow, commercial potential and feasibility
- Confidence picking up new digital tools quickly (Salesforce/SiteTracker, Slack, Google Workspace)
- Independent, well organised and comfortable building structure where none exists yet
- A collaborative style: you keep colleagues in the loop and win as a team
- Fluent German and good English
- Some exposure to leading or mentoring others is a plus; formal leadership experience is not required, as training is provided
- EV charging experience is not essential. Full onboarding and workshops are provided
What’s on offer
- Base salary: EUR 65,000-85,000, dependent on experience
- Company-wide performance-related bonus, plus a share option scheme
- Fully electric company car, including charging costs
- 29 days’ holiday, plus two Mission Days per year
- EUR 3,000 annual learning and development budget
- 25% employer contribution to your company pension
- Flexible working, with a regional coworking space to meet your team
- Wellbeing support, subsidised gym membership, and regular team events and European company trips
Why this role
This suits someone who wants to see their deals turn into something real. Stations are typically built within 1 to 2 years of a lease being signed, compared with the 4 to 5 years common in supermarket expansion. You will have genuine ownership of a region, a flat and collaborative team, and room to grow into regional leadership as the German network scales from around 70 to 300 stations by 2030.
It is a scale-up, so not everything is set in stone. People who do well here enjoy building things, handle change well, and leave their ego at the door.
