About the RoleWe are seeking an experienced Senior File Storage Interoperability Specialist to design, integrate, and optimize file storage solutions across diverse operating systems, enterprise platforms, cloud environments, and distributed infrastructure. The successful candidate will ensure reliable file access, consistent permissions, secure data sharing, and seamless interoperability between heterogeneous storage systems.
This role requires strong technical expertise in network file systems, storage protocols, identity integration, file access controls, and cross-platform troubleshooting. You will collaborate with infrastructure, cloud engineering, cybersecurity, and application teams to improve storage compatibility, performance, security, and operational reliability.
Key Responsibilities- Design and maintain interoperable file storage architectures across Linux, Windows, Unix, and cloud-based environments.
- Configure and troubleshoot file-sharing protocols, including Network File System (NFS), Server Message Block (SMB/CIFS), and related storage access technologies.
- Integrate file storage platforms with directory services, identity providers, authentication systems, and centralized access management.
- Resolve cross-platform file access issues involving permissions, ownership mapping, file locking, metadata compatibility, and protocol differences.
- Develop standards for file naming, metadata handling, character encoding, path compatibility, and shared directory structures.
- Assess interoperability requirements when integrating on-premises storage, network-attached storage (NAS), cloud file services, and distributed file systems.
- Investigate file-sharing failures, inconsistent access behavior, connectivity issues, and performance bottlenecks through structured root-cause analysis.
- Implement secure file access policies, permission mapping, auditing, encryption, and least-privilege controls.
- Validate compatibility through integration testing, protocol testing, workload simulations, and cross-platform acceptance testing.
- Optimize file storage performance by analyzing throughput, latency, concurrency, caching, and network utilization.
- Develop automation scripts and tools for configuration validation, permission auditing, deployment, and routine interoperability checks.
- Maintain technical documentation, architecture diagrams, troubleshooting procedures, and operational runbooks.
- Coordinate with vendors and engineering teams to resolve compatibility defects and plan platform upgrades or migrations.
- Recommend improvements to storage integration, reliability, scalability, and data access consistency.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Computer Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Significant experience in enterprise storage engineering, file services, systems administration, or infrastructure integration.
- Strong knowledge of NFS, SMB/CIFS, NAS architectures, and network-based file-sharing technologies.
- Practical experience administering Linux and Windows environments, including cross-platform file access and permission management.
- Understanding of Active Directory, LDAP, Kerberos, identity federation, and authentication integration.
- Experience troubleshooting file permissions, UID/GID mapping, access-control lists (ACLs), file locking, and metadata inconsistencies.
- Familiarity with cloud file storage services, distributed storage platforms, and hybrid infrastructure environments.
- Proficiency in scripting languages such as Python, Bash, or PowerShell for automation and diagnostics.
- Knowledge of storage security, network fundamentals, encryption, auditing, and data protection practices.
- Experience with storage migration, integration testing, capacity planning, and performance monitoring.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and technical documentation skills.
- Relevant certifications in cloud platforms, enterprise storage, Linux administration, or Microsoft infrastructure are an advantage.
- Competitive compensation based on qualifications and relevant experience.
- Fully remote work-from-home arrangements.
- Opportunities to work with enterprise storage platforms and complex cross-platform integration projects.
- Professional development and exposure to modern cloud, distributed storage, and infrastructure automation technologies.
Interested candidates should submit an updated CV highlighting their experience with file storage interoperability, NFS and SMB protocols, cross-platform permissions, identity integration, and enterprise storage environments.
Please include examples of integration challenges resolved, storage migrations completed, and automation or reliability improvements delivered.
